Liz's Birthday

I know I am woefully behind but I'm trying to catch up!  My friend and LAQ Liz, had a birthday.  Now what does one get for the woman that has most everything she wants and buys what she wants?  That's a difficult question.  Do you have friends like that?  With most of my friends I try really hard to come up with thoughtful gifts.  Not just something to have something to give, but something I am excited to give.  Sometimes I'm more successful at it than others, LOL.  I think I hit the nail on the head this year.

Quite awhile ago she had given me the embroidered pieces to the pattern Over the River by Crabapple Hill.  Her mom loves to embroider so she had done all the embroidery and man is there a lot of it!  So a LONG time ago I told her I would piece it for her.  Here's where the birthday comes in.  "What to get Liz, what to get Liz?"  EUREKA!  I will piece the top for her and gift it back to her for her birthday!!  I had the embroidery, and I had even pulled all the fabrics from my stash to use in the quilt top.  So I set to work on the top.  I got it finished just before we left for NC!  Then I pieced a back and made the binding too.  Put it all in a box and ta da, instant birthday present!!  Wanna see it? (that's my head in the second picture. I was holding it up for Liz to see it when I gave it to her)
OTRI finished this for Liz's birthday

The one on the pattern was done in golds and the stitchery in black. I really love how it came out using the clear blues. I might have to make one of these for myself someday!

I also made her a rooster pin cushion from a vintage planter. You already saw the pincushion in my last post. I didn't have time to bake but I went out and bought her a cheesecake from a local bakery too.

I think I'll stop right there and we will chat later! Thanks for stopping by. ~XOP~

Perfect gift. It turned out gorgeous. I have the kit in black and cream. I hope to start on the embroidery sometime this winter. Seeing this one is certainly inspiration, thanks :)

i have to admit, though - i was wondering when in the h-e-double-hockey-sticks you could have POSSIBLY found time to stitch that puppy - i've been working on it for a couple of months, and just barely finished the first embroidery last week - those trees take for frelling EVER!

Love this made up in blue. I have now seen it in the original, Kansas Troubles and blue. All were spectacular. Just a great pattern!
