So yesterday was a day of very mixed emotions. My middle daughter was born 23 years ago yesterday. She is a shining star and I love her so much! She makes me proud to be her mama every single day. How did 23 years go by so quickly? It seems like just yesterday she was a baby. She was in a hurry to get into this world, there was no stopping her and she is still like that.
Happy Birthday baby girl, I love you!
She came over to the house last night and we baked her a birthday cake, Funfetti. Then we went out for dinner. DH is out of town so it was me, her and my son, then one of her friends joined us. She loves her some BBQ so we ate at Famous Daves. Fun dinner. Came home too stuffed to eat cake so she is returning tonight for some cake.
So you are wondering what the not so great new is aren't you? Blood tests were back from the vet. It looks like our dog has an infectious disease, Leptospirosis. Now they are not 100% certain this is the case and without running the test they can't say for sure and if I start her on the antibiotics they can't do the test, but if I have the test done it is done in 2 stages over a 2 week period. The test is expensive and the antibiotics are not. I went and picked up the drugs last night. She is in renal failure and has some liver damage. Apparently according to the vet, if the phosphorus level is less than 12 they can usually save them, Laxy's is 18 = ( They wanted to hospitalize her and give IV fluids over a 48 hour period, but I can do subcutaneous fluids at home which will accomplish the same thing and cost a LOT less. We are going to try to do what we can and hope it is enough. I think she will do better being at home than she would being away from the people she loves.
So, please pray for our dog. My son is beside himself, it's his dog. I'll keep you posted. ~XOP

I am so sorry about Laxy...I know how you must feel. I'm sure that being with people she loves and who love her will help her. My prayers are with your sweet little dog.

ReplyDeleteLaxy and your family are all in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteSending out healing thoughts and prayers...
ReplyDeleteOh, my thoughts and prayers are with your family and dear dog friend!
ReplyDeleteI will say a prayer for your fur baby and your son as well - here's hoping things go well. I agree that keeping her home is going to make her feel much more comfortable.
ReplyDeleteFirst~Happy Birthday to your DD! and second~sending prayers for your DS and his dog! since moving to WI~I get Daisy vaccinated against Lepto because of the deer population where we live.
ReplyDeleteYou have my prayers. Both my little male dogs have been hospitalized in the last month. Leeapaul is home with a leg cast and hopefully the leg can be saved. Lorenzo is recovering from 5 broken and displaced ribs. They are both happier home and that is what is important. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSending lots of good thoughts to you all
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your daughter!!
ReplyDeleteHaving a sick doggie is very heartbreaking, hope you are able to spend as much time as you can with her.
Oh man, I am so sorry. I will pray that the meds and fluids pull her through. It was very hard when our previous dog that lived to be quite old left us so I know that it will be hard but I hope you can have some more time with her.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your dd - gotta love Famous Dave's for birthday dinner! I'm really sorry to hear this about your sweet baby, I'll sure pray for her...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your sweet baby girl!
ReplyDeleteWill keep you and your puppy in my prayers. It's really hard when they are sick.
If your daughter's birthday is the 9th August then she is exactly 4 months younger than my eldest, who was also in a hurry to be here as she arrived 6 weeks early!
ReplyDeleteI looked up Leptospirosis and discovered it is a notifiable human disease in Australia. The symptoms are very like flu symptoms. I do hope Laxy becomes better but if it isn't to be I hope her end is peaceful and painfree.
Big Hugs,
Robyn
I am so sorry to hear about Laxy's health. She is lucky to have such a loving home and family. Losing a pet is akin to losing a family member. They have been with us through thick and thin and I have always felt strongly about being there for them.

ReplyDeleteI'm praying for your puppy! I know how we would feel if something like that happened to either of our doxies, we'd be devastated!
