I guess that is not technically true but it is my first modern block swap and I am so excited about it. I have to make 8 blocks from the Geese In A Ring pattern found here. It is paper pieced. (I am not a huge fan, but am getting faster at it). I LOVE this block so much. I have to make 7 blocks in the colors requested by each person in the group. Then send them to the swap mama to re-distribute. My good friend, Jeannette is participating. We are having fun "choosing" from each other's stash which fabrics we want in our block!
I did so much ripping and re-stitching making this block, but I am happy with the outcome. Here is my first block, made for Amy (Calico Cat) in her choice of orange and aqua:
When I came home from work yesterday I walked into my living room (sewing room) and saw this
Oh Aiden you are such a big goof! How do cat's do that? She has to be so umcomfortable! YIKES!!
Lastly I leave you with an amazing thrift shop find of mine from late last week.
I thought this little owl pin cushion was so adorable! Now, do any of you know that that hole in the bridge of her beak is for? Glasses? Scissors? Something else entirely? Inquiring minds want to know! ~XOP~
I would guess sissors but don't really know. She is cute, Cute! Finishing my packing today and off I go! If I do not talk to you before I will check back in next week. No laptop to take with. :(
ReplyDeleteCute block - love the owl! I would think small scissors, and the tops of them would look like the owl was wearing glasses!
ReplyDeleteaaaaaaawwwww!!! i love Aiden - such a sweetie...
ReplyDeleteScissors. My grandmother had one of these. When I was little, I thought the owl was wearing eye glasses.
ReplyDeleteI would say the hole is for scissors also.
ReplyDeleteI have seen these beautiful Geese in a Ring blocks all over blogland and just love them. You did an amazing job - it looks like one heck of a block to put together! Beautiful!! This is one block that I will admire from afar!!
I am in this swap also. Can't wait to get to making them, they look so fun!
ReplyDeleteYour circle of geese is very nice!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is for your scissors, very unique find!
i love your geese block! i've always thought that was such a pretty pattern, but i've never done it before. :( oh well...i can just stare at lovely ones like yours!
ReplyDeleteNice block! The hole is for scissors. You can find these in thrift shops from time to time, but they're not common! I've seen little girls/boys, puppies and other animals. You can store your embroidery scissors in the slot!
ReplyDeleteLove the orange and aqua, what a gorgeous block. Funny cat!! Congrats on your 900 posts too, very impressive! xo
ReplyDeleteYour block is beautifully pieced! How fun! Is the hole for old &/or broken pins and needles?? :-)
ReplyDeleteI have two of these owls (I collect owls) and they both came with sissors in the beak. I just use them for decoration but one is in the studio and the other is in my bedroom where I have my Featherweight set up for paper piecing.
