The Wedding Quilt

I finally get to share the wedding quilt with all of you!!  

I asked the bride and groom to please give me some ideas for quilts they liked 

and that I told them I would choose from those.  

I chose the pattern Minimal Triangles.  

It was not really difficult but I was making a HUGE quilt so there were a LOT of triangles.  

The size I wanted to make was not a listed size so I was not really sure how many I needed.  

At my retreat in July, everyone kept asking me.  

Finally my sweet SIL figured it out 

(although that number ended up not being right either).  

I ended up using 600 triangle units!  

The chosen colors were gray and white. 

 I put a few pops of aqua in to break it up.  

It was a little boring to make so many of the same thing in the same colors.  

The pattern is a good one but 

she doesn't really tell you how to line up the rows so that the ends work out right.  

You add a white one on each end and then cut them once the entire top is put together.  

I ended up taking 2 rows apart and re-sewing them but that was not too bad.  

So without further ado, here are some photos!

It turned out to be 100" X 112"

My friend, Liz, did the quilting.  I had Celtic knots done and I love how the quilting came out!

I hand embroidered this label on the back.

(I used some sparkly thread too)

I was tickled to find this border fabric.

It is light gray triangles with a few teal ones on the charcoal background.

Perfect!

They opened it after the rehearsal party was done.

BOTH of them wanted it on their bed so the next day I put it on the bed.

It looks great with the pillow covers I made for the shower.

It seems to be Mitch approved too.

NC Trip Part 1

I know that I have been quiet for awhile now.  

Babies have been born and their quilts delivered so I can NOW talk about that.  

Bridal shower gifts have been given so NOW I can talk about that too.  

This week will be several posts catching up on all of this activity.

 Breakfast (at the DTW airport) was Chick-Fillet. 

It's the only place I know of with a Chick-Fillet in MI.

My friend, Bea, (from Bea Quilter) picked me up from the airport and

 we headed to Brixx Pizza for lunch.

 I got the chicken BBQ pizza and she got Hawaiian.  It was such good pizza!

Then we went to 3 quilt shops.  We both forgot to get a pic at Wish Upon a Quilt = /

Then we went to Bernina World of Sewing.

 Next up was the Cary quilt shop.  OMGosh!  

This shop used to be in a little house and now it is in a HUGE store!!! 

 By far my most favorite shop.  

Of course I found things to buy!  

I have not taken any photos of those things yet, but will share once I do.

Kelsey and I went and had a pedicure and ran some wedding errands on Thursday.

We went out for dinner at Dame's Chicken and Waffles in Durham that night

This was my dinner.  

Kelsey got the sweet potato waffles and they were even better than the regular ones!!

Managed a quick pic in the park on the way back to the car.

Friday found us packing up and heading to Brevard to see Nick's family and get ready for the shower.

I had to wrap my gifts and Mitch supervised.  

He does NOT like me, LOL.  

You all know how much I love cats and most cats like me too.  

I wish he was friendlier, but Max, their dog, makes up for it.  He does some amazing tricks.

We got a photo of most of the family (Nick's brother, Austin was missing).  

We grilled and had a nice dinner and visit with the family.

The entertainment for the evening was when we all went on the front porch and 

took turns target shooting.  

My daughter hit the can every time!  Even the grandma's took a turn.

This is getting a little long so I will post about the shower later.

Finish It Friday

I just realized that I have several finishes from Christmas that I did not share!  

I tried to make something handmade for my family. 

 I got most of them.  

I couldn't show them before they were gifted so I forgot about them!  

I will share now.

First up, I did some pattern testing for Unicornhearts of this snake block.  

I made this little wall hanging to mimic my daughter's snake named Clove that is brown and gold.  The border is my own idea and I love how it came out!  

I hand quilted using pearl cotton, around the snake and I have to say I love it.  

I put those little hanging triangles in the upper corners so they could hang it on a wall too.  

  

I think she liked it.  

Although I'm not so sure about my SIL.  

I don't think he likes snakes much.

VERY last minute I decided I wanted to make pillow covers (which I put over pillow inserts). 

I wanted to make one of my daughter's cat and her boyfriend's dog.  

Max is a Border Collie. 

 I like to look for coloring book pages and translate those into applique.  

Isn't this dog so cute?  

I added some fabric that says Made with love, and a couple of cat fabrics to Max's pillow. 

 I quilted the front in a cross hatch design.

Next up was Mitch, the cat. 

 I used the same Made with love fabric on one of the squares and used several fabrics that I had used in her sister's wedding quilt.  

I quilted this with wavy lines. 

 I used Essex Yarn Dyed Linen, steel I think, for the backgrounds.

This was when I gifted these at Christmas time.

Same daughter asked me if I would make golf club covers. 

 HUH??  

 I guess I can do that.  

Then the fun of trying to find a pattern began.

  I finally found something both her boyfriend liked and I thought I could manage, but it was written by a guy and his directions were awful!  

Then said boyfriend wanted very specific colored fabric, tweed to be exact. 

 I took many photos at JAF and we finally agreed on one.  

Here they are, and he was very pleased with them!

I used fleece as the lining.  

She had asked us for a splatter guard and he thought it was hilarious to use it with his golf club cover like a hot mitt.  

smh.

Next up was a fish quilt for my husband.  

I still need some better photos of this quilt, but I was so very pleased with how it came out.

I used a golden retriever flannel for the backing.

I had it quilted with fishing flies.

That just left my son. 

 He was feeling a little left out as there was no gift for him.  

Technically he was not the only one as I did not make anything for my SIL,

 but the snake wallhanging was for both of them. 

 Little did my son know that he would be receiving his quilt the day after Christmas, for his birthday.  He has been asking and asking for a Detroit Sports Quilt so that's what I made. 

 He LOVES it!

I put gray Minky on the back.

While I realize that I have shown some of these at Christmas 

I did not specifically list them as finishes.
