Market Day 3 Thursday

What was amazing about this day?  SAMPLE SPREE is tonight!!  Before that though, there were some last minute touches on the booth as well as last minute touches on all the Moda designers before their big school house gig.  Moda had a theme, Country Fair.  Each designer created a recipe card that had a recipe for a block that you might find at the Country Fair and a real, food recipe.  They were all given tee shirts and aprons.  Some of the shirts were a little BIGand required a makeover

All the Moda designers got together for a photo before going into the school house to present their block.

Here is what the quilt looked like with each designer's block.

When Edtya saw the quilt, with her fabrics, she almost cried, she is such a doll!

She was also the funniest one. She had made a bag with her project and told how her husband would see her going out with a small bag and hand over the credit card thinking that she could not fit much or charge much if that was her bag. Then she turned it out and it became a GIANT bag!! It was very funny. She also made a quilt using her block and her discarded blocks (for the recipe).

When all that fun was over we went back and did some more with the booth and walked around a little bit. Then we went for a bite to eat with the Anne's to Olive Garden. Pauline and I hustled back to get in line for sample spree. They sole 1200 tickets and it was first come first served. Since Anne was going to be in there she had a map of which vendors were where so I made a little cheat sheet while we were at dinner and while P and I were sitting on the floor we made a plan.

We were some of the first ones in. Here was our plan. New fabric by Lynette Anderson, Scandinavian Christmas (she had told us there were only 24 bundles),

followed by 1001 Peeps by Lizzy House.

Then off to Don't Look Now and another pattern company that had an adorable pattern mix.

Next was Moda. Got a little bit of Little Apples and Ruby.

Managed to snag some solids by Pat Bravo too. Half yard cuts. These sure are beautiful!!

Market Set Up and Day 2 Stuff

Sorry I am not getting this posted as quickly as you all might like but with no lap top at home and having to actually do my real job when I am at work rather than blog it is taking a long time! If you are just dying to see I finally got all the pictures up on Flickr, so have at it. Be sure to watch the video.

So back to market. Remember that before leaving for market I had some top secret sewing to do? Well I made a quilt for Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill, Pauline made one too. More on that in a minute though. Anne invited Pauline and I go come over on Wednesday and help set up the booth. We worked from 11am until 8pm, a lot of work, but an equal amount of fun. You can see Pauline opening a box and the women in the booth next to the Bunny Hill booth were Me and My Sister (Mary and Barb). They were a lot of fun to get to know over the time we were there. Extremely nice women!

Anne Sutton had her BFF Anne Bryson there to help set up too. She did most of the sewing for Anne. They were funny to watch them interact together, kind of like sisters as well as BFFs. I think Anne B and I did the majority of the actual manual labor, but it was all good. Pauline and AS lifted the air mattress unto the frame and made a big deal about their doing "work", LOL.

The only problem was that the air mattress got a hole (see Anne with her finger in the hole?)

We ended up pumping that silly mattress up about every 15 minutes. So AS took to the designer touches, like the presentation and how and where quilts should go, and Pauline did some embroidery for Anne.

The booth turned out really nice. See that little gray quilt over the chair? That's the one I did!!

I made a gray version of this quilt with Anne's Puttin' On the Ritz fabrics. This is the quilt before it was quilted and the borders were put on. I ended up having to move the coat (second row from the bottom on the left) which meant ripping out and re-doing (UGH). I never did get a photo of the actual finished quilt but you get the idea.

After we spent the entire day working, Anne treated us to dinner at the Salt Lake Brewing Company. It was a fun night! Barb and Mary joined us for dinner.

That first day was exhausting!
The next day is Thursday and we were invited back to help out and then to attend the Moda School House. That will be the next post along with Sample Spree, so stay tuned!! ~XOP~

Quilty Purchases

OK, you asked for it, you got it, my purchases from the shop hop we did with Annie.  I was very happy with my "finds" too.  The first purchases I made were some yummy Holiday Happy FQs.

I managed to find some of this awesome Pat Bravo fabric too

I'm not sure who these are by but I loved the gray, it reminds me of some tone on tone I used to have an loved with the dandelions on it.

I'm pretty sure the most amazing score was at Broadbents. I found some of these Tamis Keefe kitties

As well as a HUGE score of Sweet!!! This one is so difficult to still find. Not only did I get some FQ I also scored some yardage...SWEET!!

Well, if you know me at all you know about my fetish for creepy things, especially owls. I have a pattern that this mouse fabric would fit in perfectly too.

These beauties were in the orphan bin at one of the shops. Now, how could I leave them there??

Lastly I scored some Nest. I don't have any and thought this was a good find too. I had seen it in some other colors but liked these the best.

So there you have it, my purchases from our shop hop.

Next up is telling you all about the next market day. On Wed before market, Anne Sutton asked Pauline and I to help set up her Bunny Hill booth! It was a lot of fun and a lot of work too!

I have sooooo much to share with all of you but you will have to be patient. My computer really is dead  = (   My DD1 managed to get it to boot up but it is so incredibly slow and I can't access the internet. Awful, I know, right? Just how did I become so dependent on my laptop?? ACK!! Anyway, this means blogging and email only from work (GASP) and nothing on the weekends unless I can borrow a computer from one of my kids. I am still receiving email on my phone so I can read what you say it is just difficult to respond (I have an old Blackberry, which is the n

ext thing to get upgraded! LOL).  I have to call in tonight about potential jury duty tomorrow too, sigh, I feel like I will never catch up.  I am going to try to write and make them post later, so wish me luck with that!!  Stay tuned there will be more later!  ~XOP~

Market Adventure Day 1

I just got home from spring Market yesterday.  I was hoping to keep up posting while away but my hard drive had crashed and I am desperately trying to make it come back to life.  Of course I had it all backed up...NOT!  So keep your fingers crossed for me!  I thought this would make a great quilt!  The view from the plane on the way out to Utah.

I flew out to Salt Lake City with Pauline for the trip and we were met at the airport by our friend Annie.  She not only picked us up but she took us to several quilt shops in the area.  I am going to begin my market trip with a tour of some of the nice shops we went to, and tomorrow I will get into the actual market itself.  So if you ever wanted to visit these shops, get yourself a cuppa and get ready for your virtual trip! 

First stop was Quilts Etc.  This shop has a road running right through it!  (well kinda, their shop is on 2 sides of the road!) You can see Annie and Pauline going in too!

I hope I can remember the order we went to all the shops but honestly it is kind of a blur!!  Everywhere you looked you saw this too:

Next up was Material Girls. We heard that Helen Stubbings was going to be there. Pauline had done some embroidery for her and we wanted to meet her. She was giving a lesson on her way of doing applique and a trunk show. I managed to snap a photo of Helen and Pauline together.

So this is Material Girls shop, probably my favorite shop.

None other than miss Kellie Whulfson herself, of Don't Look Now fame!! EEP I was so excited to meet her after admiring her for so long!!!
The next shop Annie took us to was called Thimbles and Threads. It was a very nice shop, one Annie likes a lot!

I found this adorable pattern by Maggs and Me with the Little Bunny Foo Foo story on it.

I was waiting for Pauline and Annie and watching the birds out in the front yard and I saw a beautiful Magpie and some quail. Really, quail. How odd, right? We do not have quail at our bird feeders at home do you??

The next stop was a shop called Broadbents. I was so excited to find some Sweet by Moda there. Always a treasure to find that anywhere!!

We drove to another shop called the Quilting Cottage.

I didn't remember to get any pics inside though.
Pine Needles was our next shop. Hi Annie, Pauline and Maxine!!

Now off to Elaine's. They had a whole room of civil war fabrics here. The view from their parking lot was amazing too.

There were quite a few bolts of both Nest and Innocent Crush here as well as a kit using Innocent crush in it.

I picked up this pattern but will use different colors for the quilt...someday.

WHEW!! That was the last stop and then we were off to our hotel. We stayed at the Little America in downtown Salt Lake City and was it ever a beautiful place!! This is the lobby and those flowers were real!!

I did not happen to get a picture of our room but trust me when I tell you it was really, really nice! They were about 4 blocks from the convention center and there was a free tram we could take to get there or get home from there too.

I am feeling a little tired and need to stop. I will continue the market adventure soon though. Next up, helping Anne Sutton set up her booth on Wed so stay tuned. You are not going to believe who we met!!
