eBook Review and a Winner

I was recently contacted by Fons and Porter and asked to do a review of one of their books. 

 It is their Log Cabin Quilt eBook. 

 You can download a copy for yourself right here.  

Now for the review.

The book was very straight forward and easy to follow. 

 If you have never made a log cabin block this had all the basic information in it.  

I liked the "tips" that they added.  

There were some unique versions and settings that would be worth checking out if you already know how to make the basic block. 

 Some of the visual effects from the setting choices were pretty cool.  

There are directions for adding piping to your binding and I did not know how to do that before, 

so I found that most interesting! 

 Also if you don't know how to join your binding in a miter as you end

 the directions for that are there as well.

I felt there was something for most people in this book.

I would recommend it to others as a good resource.

What kind of storage areas do you have for your fabric? Can you make it all so that you can see it and know what you have? I folded all of my fat quarters the same way and stored them by color in clear plastic shoe boxes. If I had nice open shelves I would have liked to store them by color there where I could see them all stacked by their color so that I could oogle my fabrics in their beauty on a regular basis. We buy it because of it's beauty, why lock it away where we can't see it. Then we don't know what we have, and we buy more and more and more. Well,I could use more, but that seems to be a regular problem that I have seen on many blogs. I just think it should all be out where we can see it. I would like to put nice shelves into my quilt room somewhere, I just don't have enough wall space left.. :(

City Quilts The Book

I belong to the Creative Troup over at C & T publishing. They will send me (you too if you join up) electronic versions of their books for free. You have to publish 3 reviews. One on their site, one on your blog and one on Amazon. I am reviewing the book City Quilts, which I have had now for quite some time. I LOVE this book. It is probably one of my most favorite books.

In this book, written by Cherri House, she takes us into her world of using old patterns and making them new again. She does this by simplification and use of bold, solid colors. She talks about making the fabric do the work for you. If you have a beautiful fabric let it shine in your quilt design.

I have begun to incorporate more solids into my quilts as a direct result of reading this book and following her work. I think that is the part I liked the best in the book is her directing you in *how* to use solids to their best advantage.

All in all this is one amazing book! Like I said in the title, if you don't buy a lot of books, make sure you don't miss out on this one!

Christmas with Possibilities Book Review

I joined C&T Publishing's Creative Troupe for many reasons and one of them was so I could review books that I found interesting. You request one of their books and they send it to you in ebook form to read and then to review. You need to post several reviews in order for them to continue to send you new requested books. When I say this one, Christmas with Possibilities I knew this would be the first one I wanted to review. It's by Lynda Milligan & Nancy Smith, two people well known in the quilt world.

Let me just say up front, this book does NOT disappoint! It is chock full of a plethora of wonderful projects and beautiful illustrations. The directions are clearly written and one of my favorite things is that the applique templates are full sized, always a bonus. There were instructions for things other than just quilts too, like an apron, place mats, pot holders and table runners. The wall hangings and quilts were just amazing. All in all I would recommend this book to anyone wishing to make some Christmas projects either to keep or to gift. Outstanding book!
