Weekend and Giveaway Winner

I bet you are all anxious to hear who won the giveaway, right?
It should not be a surprise that it was Kathy S!!
She had many of you link up.
I will be hosting that same link up each week and
hope you will return to link up every Wednesday with me.
 Here is what she won.

Two charm packs and a pattern.
The charm packs were fabric designed by my friend in real life, Brenda.
When RJR sent them though they were missing one fabric in the line.
The line, One Room Schoolhouse, is so pretty though, she should still be able to make something pretty sweet with them!

I had a fun weekend.
I met a friend and her mom for lunch on Saturday then went shopping.
I bought some new clothes and they were even in a smaller size.
How fun is that??
I was able to buy size 12 and it was not even tight!!
I then went to JAF for a visit.
I have not stopped in there in quite some time and happened to be by a really HUGE one (two floors).  I needed to get a yard of U of M fabric and coordinating flannels
to make a chenille blanket for someone.
Of course I could NOT walk out of there without buying a few more things.
I got fabric to make 2 more chenille blankets, fabric for some Frosty the Snowman pillowcases
and a few patterns.
Quite the expensive trip!!

I did manage to make the binding and label for the Sea Horse quilt!
See that mermaid?
That is in quilting cotton but I found that same fabric in Minky and that's what I used for the back!

This is how I seem to spend quite a bit of my time when I am sitting on the couch.
Hallie jumps up, and then lays right on me while I am doing things in this spot on the couch.

When I am sewing she has taken Autumn's place on the rag quilt.
Not sure I could get rid of that quilt.
It has so many memories of each cat sleeping on it while I sew.

I have lots more to show but no more time to write.
I hope you had a good weekend and managed to stay cool!
It is supposed to be in the 90's here all week.

McCall's Guest Blogger, A Giveaway and My Winners

Today, I am a guest blogger over at the McCalls blog.
You can find my post right here.

There is a giveaway over there too.
You need to leave a comment on their blog (hopefully easier than the other website was).
They will choose three winners on March 31 to win a copy of the Cozy Calendar by Lori Holt.

I am talking about the making of my Polka Dot Playground quilt.
I hope you will pop over to their blog and leave a comment!

The winners of the McCall's Quick Quilts magazine are:

KaHolly and Ioleen!!  Congratulations ladies.
Please email me your mailing address so I can put this is the mail to you!

The winners of the Cozy Calendar are Judy in Michigan and Sophie.
Congratulations ladies!
Please send me your mailing address so I may forward it to the FQS.
They will be sending it directly to you.

I am off to a quilt retreat with those DAM girls (Detroit Area Modern Quilt Guild).
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Remember to stay off Instagram on Friday in protest.
They are trying to show you posts to your feed based on a algorithms
rather than in chronological order.
This is what Face book does and it drives me crazy.
They show what your friends post based on what they think you want to see.

So avoid Instagram on Friday
See the #silentsewin
Sew on Friday and use the above hashtag to post all about what you did,
but on Saturday rather than on Friday.

We Have A Winner and Kitty Mini Quilt Swap Loot

I would like to take a minute to thank everyone that entered the giveaway and who liked Rustic Rooster on Face Book!  Our winner is number 17, Diana who wrote:

"I love the colors of fall, and that it was my dad's favorite season...reminds me of him :) "

I have emailed Diana and hope to hear from her soon to get her goodies out to her!

In other news, my Kitty Mini Quilt from my swap partner has arrived.
My partner was Tammy from Texas.
She knew I had four cats and put all of them in the mini quilt.

She also sent a lot of little goodies.  Some jingle balls for the cats (but the dog likes them more), an adorable tea towel, a tissue holder, some coffee, a mini charm pack and a small pattern.

Here you can see it hanging in my quilting room next to the other mini I have.
I actually think I have a few others and may need to dig them out now!

I like to participate in swaps and hope there is a round 2 to this one.
Making cat themed quilts is right up my alley!

Giveaway Winner and WIP Wednesday

I am so sorry it has taken me so long to post the winner of the scrap pack.
 It is Collette!
So Collette, please email me your mailing address and I will get those scraps out to you!

I have been working a wedding quilt for friends of my husband's.
I decided to use my Daisy Field pattern (available here).
I made some progress over the weekend, as you saw in my previous post.
Here is what the block looks like before being put all together.
I am loving the use of the Pearl Bracelets!

Ah that pesky helper again too!

The color palette I was given was white and cream with gray.  I added the bits of blue.

I have also been working on my Secret Stalker Swap quilt.
I got the embroidery pattern drawn and then traced on to my fabric.  Now I need to get stitching!

I have decided to try to submit this to a magazine as the design will be my own s
o I can't show it to you just yet.

I am linking up to WIP Wednesday over at Lee's blog.

Hope you are having a great hump day!!

Thanks Regina, I have emailed you and will send your copy right out as son as I get your address.

I'm a winner

I don't have time to visit many blogs so I skim most of the time.
I love Laurie Wisburn's designs so I pop in every now and again to see what she has been up to.
I am in LOVE with her Llama's.
I so hope someone picks those up soon.
Anyway, she has done some embroidery designs (machine embroidery) and
was giving away a set of 26 threads to be able to make her designs and I was the winner!!
I received the thread in the mail yesterday.
I couldn't figure out what was in this HUGE envelope I got in the mail and it was the thread.

    (photo from Laurie's blog)

It was too dark to get a good picture of all the threads, but what an amazing collection!
Thank you Laurie!

If you get a minute stop over at the Scarlet Fig and see her work.  You will be happy you did!

eBook Review and a Winner

I was recently contacted by Fons and Porter and asked to do a review of one of their books.
It is their Log Cabin Quilt eBook.
You can download a copy for yourself right here.
Now for the review.

The book was very straight forward and easy to follow.
If you have never made a log cabin block this had all the basic information in it.
I liked the "tips" that they added.
There were some unique versions and settings that would be worth checking out if you already know how to make the basic block.
Some of the visual effects from the setting choices were pretty cool.

There are directions for adding piping to your binding and I did not know how to do that before,
so I found that most interesting!
Also if you don't know how to join your binding in a miter as you end
the directions for that are there as well.

I felt there was something for most people in this book.

I would recommend it to others as a good resource.

Now on to the winner of my giveaway.
Remember this?

I used the random number generator here and the winner is

What kind of storage areas do you have for your fabric? Can you make it all so that you can see it and know what you have? I folded all of my fat quarters the same way and stored them by color in clear plastic shoe boxes. If I had nice open shelves I would have liked to store them by color there where I could see them all stacked by their color so that I could oogle my fabrics in their beauty on a regular basis. We buy it because of it's beauty, why lock it away where we can't see it. Then we don't know what we have, and we buy more and more and more. Well,I could use more, but that seems to be a regular problem that I have seen on many blogs. I just think it should all be out where we can see it. I would like to put nice shelves into my quilt room somewhere, I just don't have enough wall space left.. :(

So Mamarock, if you will send me your address I will get this out in the mail to you!

***************************************************
Also my friend, Crazy Quilt Girl is having a HUGE giveaway over on her blog.
A $50 gift certificate to her online fabric shop!!!

If you can't find something you like there you are not trying!
Plus, she has the greatest customer service around.

Go visit her blog, answer her questions and maybe you will be the winner!!
Tell her Mama Spark sent you ; )

Have a wonderful, stitchy day!

Folks, We Have A Winner

Sorry it has taken me so long to post this but I finally dusted off Mr. Random and he chose a winner.  Lucky number 25, Grendelskin, who said, "I'm thinking of things in a whole new light all of a sudden! I need the book anyhow to participate in Konda's next quiltalong so if you pick my name you'll make me very, very happy!"

A hearty congratulations goes out to Sally!!
Send me your mailing address so I can get the book sent out to you.

I decided to work on one of my August commitments in my Bee Vintage block bee.
I managed to get one block made last night before it got too dark.
(I don't like to sew at night even though I do it a lot)
This is the block for Liz.
 I hope she likes it.
She asked for the Mini Bow Tie block.

I like it and it was a really easy block to make.
I wouldn't mind making an entire quilt out of this one.
It just might need to go on my to do list!

I have one more August block to make and then
I need to think about what I want to get finished up for the month of August.

I am thinking about a couple of QAL type things too.
 Decisions, decisions!

What do you have planned for your weekend?

Giveaway Win and Vintage Sheets

I won a charm pack from Amanda over at A Crafty Fox's blog.  I had the opportunity to meet Amanda in person at spring market this year.  She is such a sweetheart!  You should go and check out her blog.  I won a charm pack of Erin McMorris's Summersault.  I received it in the mail yesterday.
Summersault charm pack

I thought I would talk a little bit about my shopping at the Salvation Army (or as my Canadian friend says, "The Sally Ann". I love to pop in there when I have a minute and look for vintage sheets as well as vintage planters (which I will soon be turning into pin cushions, so stay tuned for more information on that!). It is kind of hit or miss for the sheets. This Saturday I made a major score. I could have bought even more, but I have this personal goal of not spending more than $4 on a sheet set. I did spend more on the one I ended up using for the back of the Dreamy Stars quilt (it was a set). I paid a whole $7 for the 2 sheets! Anyway, I am thinking about cutting some of the sheets up into squares and making a quilt like that...eventually, but first I have to gerbil pile some great linens! I like pillow cases for this as they are small and I can get good variety that way. Also, at the Sally ann near me, on Friday and Sat they choose a tag color and anything with that color tag can be bought in multiples of 5 for $5. If you are looking for silk, wool or linen this is a great place to look, especially at those prices!

Here is my vintage sheet score from Saturday.
Vintage sheet score

The bottom 2 are pillow cases and the top on the right is the set I used for the back of my quilt. Aren't they pretty? Do any of you use vintage sheets in your quilts? If you are a vintage sheet collector, and are looking for some different patterns let me know and maybe we can work out a swap of some sort. Hey, I wonder if there is a Flickr group for that? Swapping vintage sheets, I mean. Well, I'm off to look and see what I can find. I'll let you know if I find anything! ~XOP~

Could My Day Have Been Any Better?

No, I seriously doubt it!  The day began like any other, up early, go to work, work, leave for home.  OK so far pretty normal.  I had spoken with my friend Cori, Crazy Quilt Girl, and she had asked me to help her write a piece for some upcoming blogs about how she got started and about what she does.  I was happy to do that.  So I know that Pips has arrived at her house so I went over there directly after work.  OMG it was Pips heaven!  As I walked in 3 more boxes of Pips arrived on her porch.  Here are the two piles with a few more bolts coming tomorrow.  Do you know what that means?  It means she will have it ALL!!!   SQUEEEEE!!!

Pips 001Pips 002
It was interesting though that seen in person some of the color ways I thought I would love I was not as excited about. I LOVED the gray dog, it is the cutest, and the gray scooter girl too. Maybe I'm just in love with gray at the moment, LOL.

Well, after my ODing on Pips I went home. Major bunner! I had to think about what I want to buy (read can afford to buy with an upcoming trip to Utah in May). I'll keep you posted. I'm pretty sure I will buy more than I should but hey sometimes you just have to do these things (like when I found the entire line of Hope Valley).

I was home for a little while and happened to be sitting in my living room looking at a magazine when I saw the UPS truck. I wasn't expecting anything was I? My DS and I raced to the door (although I'm still not sure what he was racing to the door for) and what do I see on my front porch?
GO! 003
OMgosh it's HERE!!! My new Baby Go! that I won, I was so excited!!!
 GO! 004
Along with her came 3 mats and the three dies I chose, circles, hexies and quarter square triangles.
 GO! 006 GO! 005

I chose those three dies because my good friend LTW has a full sized GO! and lots of dies.  I thought I would get some of the ones she doesn't have.  I may order more later but this is certainly enough to play with at the moment dontcha think??

I took today off so I could try to get my Layer c\Cake and my Jelly Roll quilts put together.  Any bets of whether that is going to happen?  I really need t

o do the LC quilt top as it is for a graduation present and the party is the end of May!!  Maybe I'll just clean my house.  Who knows, it's always an adventure around here!  Cori and I are going to go out for lunch today and that will be fun.  I am so happy to re-establish our friendship.  She is such a wonderful person and a great friend!  Well, whatever you do I hope you have a great day today too.  Today is called the present for a reason.  It is God's present to you so use it wisely!  ~XOP~

Drum Roll Please...

I got up nice and early this morning so I could make a list (since not all the comments were separate) and then I used the random number generator (which I have no idea how to put that in here so you will just have to believe me when I tell you) and the winning number was 9! Dee, you are the winner!!! I will be emailing you shortly to get your mailing address. Congratulations and thank you everyone for reading my post and for all the nice comments!!

I don't want to *string* you along but I will have another post on Feb 11 at Stash Manicure so be sure and check it out. I have more to post about today but will put it in another post.

CONGRATULATIONS DEE!! (Oh no, Dee, I don't see a way to contact you, so I will give you one day to get in touch but if I don't hear from you I will have to go to the back up number I generated).

I'm a WINNER!!

Yes I certainly am! I received an email during the night while I slept telling me that I had won a giveaway over at Pigtales and Quilts. What did I win I hear you asking?

I won a $50 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop!!!

If you have never visited the FQS you need to run, not walk, right on over and check them out. I buy all my Moda from my friend Cori (Crazy Quilt Girl's online shop), but for other manufacturer's I usually go to the FQS. Both places are fabulous.

Happy: Winning the gift certificate made me happy for the day! Now I just need to work on making someone else happy today! Have a wonderful day!

Gifts and Give Aways

I haven't had time to blog about the wonderful gifts Elaine sent to me. The story? A little while ago I posted about a flamingo quilt I made for my DD2. Elaine loved the fabric I used. As it happens I had a ton of that fabric (bought all they had when it was clearanced out). To make a long story short, I sent it to her. I knew I would not ever use it again since I had used it once so she is now the proud owner of some awesome flamingo fabrics. So just before I left for vacation, a package arrived for me from Texas. I do get packages from TX from time to time from my wonderful friend Suzanne. (She and my DS are BIG UT fans!!) Surprise to me, it was from Elaine and here is what I got.
From Elaine
It was some flamingo fabric, a huge flamingo apron (to be repurposed into something else), a set of serving utensils and the cutest little "lawn ornament" display for my table top! Thank you so much, Elaine, I love all the gifts!! I ended up giving DD the serving pieces and the display. I will keep the other to make some things from in the future.

On top of that I entered a give away with MANY different prizes. I sent some blocks for a cancer quilt to Lucia. They were plus/cross blocks. She had several wonderful prizes for the people that contributed and I won! Three Heather Ross FQ's!!!!
Give away winner
Aren't they fabulous?? I was so excited!! Now if I can just win one of those GO cutters that are out there!! LOL.

I am super busy at work at the moment and at home too so not much quilty is going on. I finished the last 2 jelly roll quilt along blocks and will try to get pics soon. I have a plan for how I want to put it together but I need to order some of the coordinating fabric for that, sigh. I can only get it just so far and then I will have to wait for the fabric to arrive in the mail. I am almost done with the second set of waves for the mermaid quilt for the auction too. I need to finish that soon so I can begin quilting it since it is due on Sept 13th! (Just like my challenge quilt).

More when I have some pics to share!
