My New Doll Quilt

Oh my gosh, I don't even know where to begin! I got a small package in the mail today. I was hoping, hoping, hoping it was my doll quilt! I carefully opened the package and to my utter delight, there was a beautiful aqua tissue wrapped package all tied up in red ribbon. How did you know that aqua is my FAVORITE color? I thought of all the aqua quilts I have seen posted and held my breath...maybe it was the beautiful applique project with that adorable red bird. The anticipation was killing me but I wanted to savor it all and take lots of pictures. Suprise, it was!!!

I love the saying on the front (Let the beauty we love be what we do)and the binding in red. Why didn't I ever think to pair red with aqua, you are brilliant!! What a great quote. How true, our souls seem to be reflected in our quilts. I love it!!! Look at the cute little, perfect red bird! He is so sweet. How did she ever get the circles so perfect, mine are always slightly askew. Monica, I love it. Your hand quilting is fabulous. I don't hand quilt very well and it is so time consuming that I just don't do it. You did it for a perfect stranger. Thank-you. I now own something that was obviously quilted with love.




Then to top it all off, Monica *made* the tag with the adorable cat on it. I guess you figured out that I love cats, huh? I really, really love it. I know when my daughter, Shelby sees it she will want it!She is decorating a new apartment and it would look soooooo darling there. She will just have to wait for awhile while I enjoy it first.
I was so insecure about sending my work away and I was very lucky to have such a wonderful person receive it, Natalie. She suggested we take periodic photos of our little beauties throughout the year and post them so their birth moms can see them. I will try to be a good adoptive mom.
I took a close up of the actual label, but I need to take another one, obviously I drank too much diet Coke as the photo is a little blurry: ) I will try again and add it later.

Doll Quilt Swap...My Quilt

I put my doll quilt in the mail today!!! I wanted to show you guys some pictures but you can't see the label because I have written on it. (Something needs to be a suprise!) My cat Hallie really seems to enjoy it. You know what I say, "You're never really dressed until you are wearing cat hair". I hope my partner is not allergic. If you look in the corner you will see my, now trademark, stamp. My friend from Japan, Yuki, carved the stamp out of stone and if you look really really close, you can see that she carved my name in Japanese in the corner of the stamp.
ever since I received the stamp, I have used it on all my quilts. So if the label is ever taken off, the stamp will tell anyone that it is my quilt! Isn't that neat? My friend Liz, did the quilting on her long arm. She did it all freehand, she is amazing!

Doll Quilt Swap

I am soooooo excited. I finished piecing my doll quilt top and I am very pleased with the results!! I hope my partner loves it as much as I do. The top was made using only stash fabrics. I really want to show a picture but I will wait until my partner gets it to put up the picture. I found some err, ehh, *unique* fabric for the back. I kept looking at the fabric at the store and had no idea why I knew I was supposed to buy some but I finally gave in and did it. *Now* I know why. My partner loves this! I even made the binding today so all I will have to do is sew it on with a label and I can post it once it is back from the quilter. (Love piecing, actual *quilting* not so much, lol) I will probably make the label today too, but later. I have been trying to visit the other swappers blogs and I am through the K's. So far I have found one other person from Michigan. Are there anymore??

I have a friend that has bone cancer and she had to have all her teeth in her upper jaw pulled. She had to undergo radiation for awhile and has one week off before she begins chemotherapy. She has no family, or spouse just her cats. I am thinking about asking my quilt group if they will help me to make a cat themed quilt for her. I haven't decided but I think I will let everyone make what ever they want either using cat fabric or making a block with a cat on it. I have a book of appliqued cats called "Claire's Cats" by Darcy Ashton so I think I will do fusible and make mine appliqued. Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome. I have to go to a graduation party now so I better shower and get ready. Hmmm, maybe I'll just dart on down the basement and see if I can find that book first...
