Baby Ryan's Quilt

I was *finally* able to gift this adorable little fox quilt that I made last year.
I loved making this for my friend, Ellen's daughter and SIL's new baby.
Pattern is called Little Fox and you can get one too right here.

The applique fox was my favorite part!  I hand stitched his whiskers on.

I hand embroidered a label for the back.
I am liking putting then into the binding.  It kind of kills two birds with one stone, right?

I found this adorable Minky backing and had to buy it for this quilt.
It is incredibly soft.
My friend had never felt Minky before.
WHAT???
Who doesn't know what Minky is???
Are you kidding me??
LOL.
I have a feeling now that she knows, her quilts will have this on the back too.
It is nice since it is usually 56" wide too.
Sometimes it comes even wider.
Amazing stuff!

This is baby Ryan with his mom and dad and the quilt.  They really seemed to like the quilt.

It is so special to be able to gift something you made with so much love and have it be so appreciated.
I just love this sweet little family and I know my friend
(grandma, Ellen)
is over the moon about this little guy.
Thanks again for dinner.
We had a great time visiting and meeting baby Ryan.

Congratulations mom and dad, you did very well!
Enjoy that baby quilt.

WIPs With Friends

If its Wednesday, it must be time to share our WIPs!  I finished the fox top and am moving on.

Now I have to decide how I want it quilted.  Here are the three I narrowed it down to.
Help me choose.  they are all overall designs.
I will not have her quilt over the fox, just outline him.

I have begun the fish quilt for my husband also.
I cut the sashing incorrectly (big surprise there) but did not have any more of that fabric, of course.
I bought it at retreat and bought all they had.
I had cut the selvedge off but discarded it recently thinking I didn't need it any longer.
Oh, man, now I had to rely on my old memory to come up with it.
Well, guess what??
I actually remembered!!! AND, I actually was able to find some online and I ordered it!!!
So I did get some of the blocks made and this is what I have so far.
I wasn't very excited about putting this together but now that I am working on it the blocks are coming out kind of cool.

Additionally I finished up my 2 October bee blocks.
They look like one giant block in the photo but they are really 2.

Gratuitous photo of Finn and what are you working on??
Link up and share with us.

WIP's With Friends

Here it is Wednesday again.
I seem to have been busy with lots of things but not a whole lot of sewing!
I did manage to work on my little fox quilt so will show you the progress from that.
It is for a friend at work that is having a baby.

Started off making all the block pieces.

Finny and Cole were "helping" me.

They both fell asleep though.

Over the weekend I finished the blocks.
Putting them together was a PIT butt.
I'm not sure if I was not reading the directions correctly or if they are not written clearly, or something, but I sewed and UN sewed many times before
I finally just decided to put it on the design wall to get it right!

That blank spot in the photo above is where the fox went.
I got him all fused down and needed to sew around all the edges.

Once again, Finn thought he needed to "help" me with that!
I did get all the edges sewn around using a blanket stitch.

The last thing I had to do was embroider the eyes and the whiskers by hand.
I got that finished too.

I went on the hunt for an appropriate Minky to use for the backing.
I found the cutest fabric on ETSY.
I have ordered it and am waiting for it to arrive.
I will send it off to my long arm quilter to work her magic on.
I really want to get the binding made for this one and for one of the other quilts at her place too.
I plan on working on that this week.

If you need your own pattern of this, you can purchase it right here.

I also need to work on the fish quilt for my husband.
Shhhh don't tell him, but I really am not thrilled to be working with boring fish fabrics!
Hopefully he will enjoy it though.
