Quick Quilt Retreat

I headed out last Thursday with my SIL, to a quilt retreat in Chesaning, MI.
The retreat was at Creative Passions.
We were in the basement of the big green house.
  We love retreating there.
Our friend, Cori was not able to join us this year though and we really missed her!
Mary and I spread out our "stuff" and that was nice too.
You can see my set up on the right.
Hers on the left and the gigantic pile of fabric.

I was working on my Ocean Wave blocks.
I started these several years ago now.
I even cut into my precious Neptune fabric!
I thought I had everything I needed to finish up the 8 blocks but alas, I did not.
I was missing the white squares for the final 3 blocks.
Since it was an OOP fabric I had to wait until I got home to be able to cut more.
I guess these will be coming with me to NC!

I did finish the five I had fabric for though.

I brought some old bee blocks I found when cleaning recently.
They were all made from vintage sheets.
I got that top put together.

I joined up with my local LQS during the pandemic to do their block of the week.
I kept up for half of the year then we left for NC.
I brought the rest of the patterns and fabric to make the rest of the blocks with me.
I finished all 52 blocks!!!  They were super time consuming since they are 8" blocks.

We stayed in for our food and ate what we brought for most of our meals.
This allowed us to continue to sew.
We got up early and stayed up late.
The one break we did take was to go to the quilt shop.
That always takes a bit of time as Seven Sisters is a little ways away.

We had a great time and got quite a bit finished.
I am leaving on Thursday for NC for 3 months.
Just packed up some projects and we shall see what I get done.
Will be playing with my grandson so not sure.
We will be meeting up with our friend, Kailie at the campground.
She is a quilter and we like to sew together.
Looking forward to all of it.
(Especially seeing GS and getting into warmer weather)

Quilt Retreat

I went with some friends on a quilt retreat last weekend.
My friend Cori (Crazy Quilt Girl Fabric Shop), my SIL Mary and two friends that I had not met IRL, Elaine and Pam (her aunt).
I had scheduled time at Creative Passions in Chesaning, MI.
It was so much fun!
We took a 5 person space (if you look at their website you can see which one we had, CP2B).
It was located in an old church.
We had one part and there is another part that holds 24 people but there was no one else there but us.  We brought LOTS of food and ate dinner in one night.

This was the creative space we all shared.  You can see Elaine hard at work!

Mary was working on an amazing Christmas quilt!

I decided to work on a Detroit sports quilt for my son.
I did all the cutting on Friday for my quilt since I bought the sashing at the shop.
I had a different pattern in mind but when we got to the retreat, the owner had a version of this quilt hanging on the wall.
The more I looked at hers the more I knew it would make a great sports quilt.
So I went online and found the pattern and thankfully they had a pdf that I could download.

On Friday we went to the Seven Sister's shop.  It is a great shop located in Carson City, MI.

We also went out to Miner's Fabric Shop, which is in a quaint Amish yard.  So cute!

I managed to get a photo of Pam as the Amish buggy was returning home!

We went out for dinner one night at a place by the river.

Cori and I having a fun time!

We stopped at a super cute shop on Saturday that was not as far away as the first one.
We had visited this shop previously but it had moved from Chesaning to St Charles.
It is the Silver Thimble.
I didn't take any pics of the shop but I did get a few photos of some cute things they had including this chair cover and that camper embroidery.

After sewing all morning and then most of the night.
I had this much of the quilt together and just needed to put the borders on.

I put the borders on Sunday morning.
I was so happy to have the top finished.  I ordered some 90" wide, gray minky for the backing.

In case you need to make one too, the pattern is called
Ob-La-Di
by Abbey Lane

You can find it here.

Next up was to determine what else to work on.
I was going to bind the sports quilt in the black but decided that I wanted to see if I could cut out sashing for a second version of this quilt (non sports).
I did not have the yardage the pattern required but thought I would try anyway.
I managed to eek out the entire center part out of the yardage I had but not the borders.
 Then it hit me.
If I bound the sports quilt in something else I would have enough of the black for the borders of the second quilt!

Here is the sashing and borders all cut out for a second quilt!

I decided to make sports binding using all the team fabrics.
In addition, I made bindings for 2 more quilts that are currently at the quilters so those are ready when the quilts come back.

I think it was a super productive weekend and I can't wait to do this again!

Quilt Retreat Weekend

This past weekend was AWESOME!
I got to spend an entire weekend with my DAM girls and my SIL at a quilt retreat.
We went to Creative Passions 3 in Chesaning MI.  The venue was so nice!
There was a quilt shop about a block away too.
We drove to another one in Carson City and they called me a little while ago and
I won a $20 gift certificate from them!!!

My SIL and I have been trying to find some time to hang out together and quilt.
 This was absolutely perfect!

The first night we went out for dinner we found ourselves at the corner of Lincoln and Broad.
Clearly we found this hilarious (My last name and her maiden name are Lincoln)

I see I look gigantic in this photo but I had a fleece sweater on under my coat.

We worked hard and we played hard.  There was a really nice quilt shop about a block away.
Of course we had to visit that shop too.
It was called the Silver Thimble.
The owner's mom was running things as the owner was out recovering from surgery.
 She was a riot!

They had the cutest quilt kits with Gabby and Friends.
One was a quilt kit and one was a jammies kit.  I
f you have not seen these books you should look for them.
There is a doll and bear too.

Seven Sisters quilt in Carson City was nice also.
Since it was national Quilt Day, there were discounts!
YAY for sales!!!

There was also a tea being held in the classroom building out back.
This wonderful man, Paul, had his barn art on display and for sale.
Pretty reasonable prices too.

I loved this one the most.  It was about 18" x 18".  I would do different colors though.

Lest you think all I did was shop, I did manage to get this Splendid Sampler block finished.

I also got all of the HST blocks for the wedding quilt made, and trimmed!
There was no design wall
(actually there was but we didn't find out until we were getting ready to leave on Sunday),
so I figured I could play with the blocks at home.

I finished 2 more things but will show you those on Friday
so I can sign up with all the finish it up websites.

How was your weekend?
It was really difficult to be back to work today!
