New Projects

I made a quilt for my son but didn't get it back until we returned from NC.
He had a golden retriever that passed away.
She was our dog first then when he moved out he took her with him..
 That dog just adored him!
So when she passed away I decided to include a nod to her in his quilt.
I used Holiday Homies by Tula Pink.
It has a golden with glasses.
I used the pattern called Comfort and Joy.
I finished and bound it and was able to gift it to him recently.

I decided to go through all on my vintage sheets and sell them.
I have SO many fat quarters!
I made FQB and put them in my ETSY shop.
This was the mess when I was sorting them all out.

Of course Cole was helping me!
I did find more sheets and FQ after I had them all bundled up!
I see making more in my future.
I have layer cake sets available, but not listed just yet.

They are so pretty and make such gorgeous quilts!

We had a little electrical issue this past week into this week.
On Sunday our microwave stopped working.
We quickly realized that everything on the same circuit was also out.
Circuit breaker off and outlets were still HOT.
This took out my entire sewing room.
A friend came over to help hubby diagnose the issue.
After some work it was determined that we had a neutral wire loose that might be causing it.
So hubby said he wanted to replace the outlets one by one.
He didn't realize that the outlet by my side of the bed was on the circuit.
My electric blanket wouldn't work so clearly the 2 plugs in the room needed testing.
He kept insisting it had to be an outlet in my sewing room.
I said the one by the bed was loose and SCARY.
He replaced a few but everything magically worked once he replaced the scary one.
Unfortunately, he asked me to clear a path to all the outlets in my sewing room.
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Two are behind dressers, good luck moving those, LOL.
One was behind a mountain of fabric.
No joke, a huge pile!!!!
So I worked and worked and WORKED to clear it out.
It made me really want to continue cleaning.
You can see the path.
I will be going through the cubbies next.
I cleared out a LOT of fabric that I need to list for sale.

I have all the bundles of vintage sheets listed in my shop here.
I have some fabric listed on IG but maybe I should put it here too?

Stay tuned.

Quick Quilt Retreat

I headed out last Thursday with my SIL, to a quilt retreat in Chesaning, MI.
The retreat was at Creative Passions.
We were in the basement of the big green house.
  We love retreating there.
Our friend, Cori was not able to join us this year though and we really missed her!
Mary and I spread out our "stuff" and that was nice too.
You can see my set up on the right.
Hers on the left and the gigantic pile of fabric.

I was working on my Ocean Wave blocks.
I started these several years ago now.
I even cut into my precious Neptune fabric!
I thought I had everything I needed to finish up the 8 blocks but alas, I did not.
I was missing the white squares for the final 3 blocks.
Since it was an OOP fabric I had to wait until I got home to be able to cut more.
I guess these will be coming with me to NC!

I did finish the five I had fabric for though.

I brought some old bee blocks I found when cleaning recently.
They were all made from vintage sheets.
I got that top put together.

I joined up with my local LQS during the pandemic to do their block of the week.
I kept up for half of the year then we left for NC.
I brought the rest of the patterns and fabric to make the rest of the blocks with me.
I finished all 52 blocks!!!  They were super time consuming since they are 8" blocks.

We stayed in for our food and ate what we brought for most of our meals.
This allowed us to continue to sew.
We got up early and stayed up late.
The one break we did take was to go to the quilt shop.
That always takes a bit of time as Seven Sisters is a little ways away.

We had a great time and got quite a bit finished.
I am leaving on Thursday for NC for 3 months.
Just packed up some projects and we shall see what I get done.
Will be playing with my grandson so not sure.
We will be meeting up with our friend, Kailie at the campground.
She is a quilter and we like to sew together.
Looking forward to all of it.
(Especially seeing GS and getting into warmer weather)

What To Do With Leftovers?

As I said in my post yesterday, I had LOTS of left over triangle units.
I also had too many of the white base units cut.
I did not want to show what I did with the quilt left over triangles until it had been gifted
but I can share now.

I made a pair of pillow cases using the triangle units for the cuff.

Here they are folded up.
Of course I forgot these at home so will need to bring them with me next time we visit.

Hmmm...that didn't use up nearly enough.
I thought I should make a baby quilt and
when I went to do that I realized I needed to make a few more.
No problem, I had LOTS of the bases left over too.
This is pre border.

I added an aqua border to this one as it felt more like a baby to me.

Close up.  I still need to quilt this but at least I used up all the gray triangle units!

Oh, but there were still SO MANY base units left.
I showed this before but could not really talk about why I made it so here goes.
I used up the left over base units making this baby quilt.
I had been cutting and cutting up my vintage sheet hoard so
used some of the squares to make this quilt top.
Somehow though, it needed more color.
I decided to use colorful borders for this and I love how it came out.
It would have been good with colorful bases and white triangles too but
I needed to use what I had cut already.

So tell me, do you like these? I need to quilt them both.
If you want to make a VS one and have the pattern,
I have squares I can sell you as a pack to make the triangles.
If you want the same borders I have sheets you could choose from too
(although not the one in the photo).
Just shoot me an email (mamaspark@gmail.com) .
The pattern is called Minimal Triangles.

Double Slice Quilt

Hi friends!  Sorry this has been a long time coming.
I have been busy working on the wedding quilt and other wedding related things that I can't show.

I made a quilt back in July at our retreat using the double slice quilt pattern.
I got some photos of it today as I am sending it to the quilter.
I needed a quick gift for a friend undergoing chemo.
I think this will be pretty and cheery.
I used a pink floral minky for the back (it's what I had on hand).
My amazing friend, Liz, will quilt it up for me tonight so I can bind tomorrow
and gift it on Wednesday.
I made the binding using vintage sheet too.
I had a multi colored stripe on white that I cut on the bias to use for the binding.

Here are some photos of the quilt.
This pattern is GREAT for a quick quilt and will now be my go to pattern for something quick.
It only requires a layer cake to make it!

I plan on putting together some more layer cakes so I can make another one.
I have an Opal Owl quilt all cut out to make one of these too.

I hope to be able to get back to more consistent writing in the near future.
