Walking in NC

We like to find places to walk when we are in NC, not just around the campground.
We walked at a park and near the Haw river (on different days.

Thought I would share the beauty here.

Native Americans used this V to help make catching fish easier.

The Haw in Swepsonville, NC

Since we get time to ourselves while A is in day care we find other things to do to keep busy.
For instance I have finished binding 2 quilts, made a quilt top and have almost finished the hand work on my Quite Contrary quilt top.
I've also finished reading 5 books.
This day we went to Swepsonville and found a park on the Haw river.
Beautiful day to go for a walk along the river.

My Batman showing off his Bat Cave shirt.

I found a few interesting plants.
This Clematis for instance.
It was going to seed but still pretty.

I had Moonflowers in my yard and this blossom looked like the plant was in the same family.
Chris looked it up and it is a Datura stromonium.
I wish we could have seen it in blossom!

These next 2 photos reminded me of faces on the log.
Kind of creepy for Halloween, right?

We went to the Saxapawhaw general store and THIS time I made Chris get some "quilty" beer.
I don't really drink beer anymore but I loved this can!
We saw them the last time we were here and I didn't buy any.
I picked up a 6 pack this time!

We did go to the brewery there and Chris enjoyed a beer.

Next up is Avery's first birthday.

I hope you are enjoying our trip to NC so far!

Hiking the Haw

Last week we went for a 4 mile hike along the Haw river.
We saw TONS of turtles.
I think most of my photos were of turtles!!
The best find was a swamp lily growing directly in the middle of our path.
Someone hiking from the opposite direction we were going told us to keep going and we would see it.  So we continued our hike to the lily and then headed back.
I will share some of my favorite photos here.

I was totally fascinated by all the turtles!

I've only ever seen these flowers in yellow!

I was taking turtle pics when I looked up and these white flowers were all over a bush in front of me!

This is the swamp lily we found right in the center of the path!

Not sure what this flower was but it was so sweet.

I caught this Cormorant as he was taking off.  Lucky shot!

It took a few tries to get my camera to focus on this spider web.

Love shooting directly down on plants like these.

I took so many pictures of the turtles, but there were so many in so many cool spots!
I hope you enjoyed our hike photos.

The Haw River and Graffiti Bridge

Recently we went for a walk along the Haw river in NC.
I thought the scenery was so beautiful!

There were several large rock structures in the river and this one reminded me of a gator.

This on reminded me of a frog

I love that you can see the falls in the background of this photo.

We found this amazing graffiti bridge in Bynum.
I thought I was pretty clever making Chris stand near this one.

I didn't get a photo but the entire bridge was COVERED in graffiti.
One over the top of the other.
Except this one was left untouched.
I thought that was really cool.
It felt like the artists respected it enough to leave it alone.
At least that's how I chose to see it.

The rest of the pics were just art that I liked.

It was an interesting place to visit.
The beauty of the river and the area contrasting with the graffiti, art on the bridge.
