Granny Square Challenge

You may recall that I signed up for a challenge last year (or maybe you don't).
A woman heading the group sent us each 12 out of production, Tula Pink 2.5" squares.
Each month she listed which one we were to use as our center of the granny square pattern and each month issue us a challenge on how to use it.
I finished the rest of mine up (even thought it doesn't end until February!).
I thought I would share my last few here and tell you how we were challenged to use them.
It was a fun and easy project.

For all of them she challenged us to use a background other than white.
For this one we had to use fabric that had something that flies.
I chose bees.

Even thought this looks white it is not, it is minty.
The challenge was to use froggy green (or frogs).  I used the frogs

This month we had to use raccoons.

That finished them up, BUT she sent the brown basket fabric and
issued a bonus challenge to use it in a block (or blocks).
Here is my finished block using the brown basket weave as the center.

Now the challenge is how will I set them into a quilt?  I would love a few more blocks.
I am hoping she continues this over the course of the next year.

It was a fun challenge and forced me to use things together I might not have.

Enjoy your weekend!

WIPs With Friends

I have been sewing when I get a minute, but it has been sporatic things.
I need to get my butt in gear and work on my pattern testing stuff and my kitty swap project.
I started on the pattern test block only to realize she needed to make some changes
( or I should say, I wanted her to make some changes).

This is the block, designed by Quilt Genius.  I can't wait to get started now that I have her changes.

I'm going to use the science words for the background.
Those peach fabrics will be the paws, tail, ears and nose.

I guess Finn thought he should help too.

At least I got all my fabric choices done.

While I was waiting I decided to work on my Tula Granny Square Challenge blocks.
In the Tula Pink group I belong to on FB a woman asked if anyone would be up for a challenge.
She would send each of us 12 babies (center of a granny square)
of OOP Tula fabric.
Each month she would issue a particular challenge to sew with a particular square.
Here are my blocks for July, August and September

July's challenge was to use fabric with circles.  I used some Neptune, and also Flutterby.

August was to use a blue print or solid.  I used Slow and Steady and Nest.

September was to use fabric from the Eden line.

I am really happy with how my blocks turned out!
I need to finish the October one now so I can be ahead and have time to work on other things.
Next up is the pattern testing and then the kitty swap projects.

What are you working on?  Link up and share with all of us!

Fri-YAY!

I am SO happy it is Friday (Fri-YAY!).
It's been a long week back to work after all that enforced time off.
I tried to get a few things done while home but there is always more to do, right?

I used my Binding Buddy (you can get one here) to spool my binding on.
I made the binding for the first wedding quilt.
 I LOVE the Binding Buddy.
No more binding dragging on the ground getting covered in cat hair or threads!
WOO HOO
Just slip one end in the crack, and twist using the head to spool the binding on the spool.
When ready to use, put her on a vertical spool pin and sew on your binding.
It will un-spool as you sew.
So COOL!

I'm participating in a Tula Granny Square challenge group.
Each month we are given a challenge.
The center (or baby) of the block was given to each of us by the organizer.
Then each month she issues us a challenge.
You are only allowed to use Tula fabric or solids.
This month the challenge was to use pink in the block.
Finn was "helping".

He is DYING with my husband out of the country, for attention!

He is adorable but it sure makes it difficult to sew!

Here is my block.
Baby is from Nest, Mama is from Slow and Steady and Grandma is from Nest.
Pink was my background.

I have the weekend to myself and I can't wait!
I do have a bridal shower to go to tomorrow and a visit at the funeral home tonight.
My plan is to make some dish towels tonight, for the shower tomorrow.
I also have another gift.  Then, to work on the components for Paula's traveling quilt center.
I am excited to begin that.

What are you up to this weekend?

WIPs With Friends the Thursday Edition

Sorry guys, for not posting yesterday.
I was at the hospital with my son.
He had his IVC filter removed yesterday through his Juggler Vein!
It went well but it was a bit scary for him (and us).

I have been working on a few things so that I would have time to work on
my center for my traveling quilt.

I sent my flying geese blocks and the woman that received all our bee blocks put this together.
Looks pretty sweet so far!

I'm in a Tula Granny Square group and this is my first block in the series.
We are going to be doing one per month.
The leader challenged us to use non-white backgrounds and supplied the center squares for all of us.

I got 3 more Ocean Waves block components sewn and trimmed.
I also made one more OW block so now I am up to 20!

I got 2 sets of Scrappy Triangle blocks finished.

I got my April bee blocks finished, just need to mail them.

I joined in the scrappy vortex 100 days project on IG.
I'm pretty sure I can sew pairs together for awhile.
If you need to see the scrappy vortex you can see what it is on Crazy Mom Quilts blog.

Next up is pulling scraps and trimming them so I can sew some more together.
I am finding them in layers, as projects finished.
This means I have to mix them up or my quilt will be pretty strange looking with chunks of colors rather than all over scrappy goodness!

I am going to post the link up here and you should link whatever you are working on at the moment.
