Today we had to put our beloved dog, Laxy to sleep. It was not an easy decision and it has not been an easy day. We got her when she was about 2years old from some friends that had found her wandering. We had her for about 4 years. Recently she had not been acting like herself. Not very excited, kind of lethargic. I took her to the vet. The words you don't want to hear. Kidney failure. "She's so young", I said. "Is there anything we can do?" We did everything they told us and it still was not enough. She went from a 70 pound dynamo to a 41 pound old woman. Last night she wouldn't even get up for me. Wouldn't eat. Kept vomiting. I just couldn't watch her do that anymore. It broke my heart = ( My son wanted to be there when they did it. I had to be there. I always have to be there. It just somehow seems so wrong to me that your friends should leave without the comfort of someone they love being near to ease their passing. As difficult as it is to be there I feel like I owe them at least that. To tell them it's ok, to let them know we love them and that we will see them again at the bridge. So Lax, "Get the kitty" and "Bring us your toy", we will grieve today and then celebrate all the good times we had together. We love you and we miss you!
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My heart goes out to you and your family as my son and I went through a similiar event two years ago with our beloved cat we had for 15 years. She was a beautiful dog and you have wonderful memories with her. My thoughts and prayers.
big big hugs. She was beautiful and even those that were given a short time with us leave a long lasting impression. I think we learn as much from them as they do us.
How well I understand this pain. It will fade, in time, and your heart will fill in with beautiful memories where the pain was. I am remembering you and your family in prayer. She knew how much she was loved.
I got teary as soon as I started reading your post. I agree, although it's tough, I have to be there when they go. I don't know why but the older I get the harder it gets to lose loved ones. My heart is with you. Sincerely, Toni

Hi Pam, so sorry to hear of your loss for your pet. I too have just been through doing the same thing for our family pet dog, poppy. It was so hard too she had a tumor on her elbow on the front leg and it got bigger and bigger as the months went by then we had to make the same decision as you also... it's really hard . It has been a week now and we all miss her to bits . at least we know they are at peace. sue~nz

I am so sorry Pam.
Big hugs Pam. Laxy will have lots of company at Rainbow bridge from our cats, horses and one special dog called Keli that we had for 14 years and she was the 'welcome' committee and friend for any new arrivals, animal or human.

Big Hug to you Pam! I know what it's like to lose a pet that you consider a family member, have been there, and now have 2 doxies that we're even closer to than the others in the past, can't imagine how we'll feel when that time comes for them! I'll think of you in this time of loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family.
Sorry to hear about Laxy, it hurts but it was time to let her go. Big hug!
