Some Finishes

I have a few quilts to share so thought I would do another post.
First up is this adorable fox quilt.
This will be heading to my goddaughter, eventually.

I used the softest fleece with little foxes on it for the backing.

This little beauty was made using all left over fabrics from my stash.
I will be selling this one in my ETSY shop in the near future.
The bears in the center are Minky.

I used some Winnie The Pooh minky on the back of this one.
It is quilted with bees.

I also made a couple of self binding blankets to gift shortly.
The dogs are flannel and the blue dot is Minky.

I had a small piece of MSU Minky so got to use it in this one.
It is also being gifted soon.

Next up are 2 quilts I made out of flannel.
This first one was made from the left overs of the bigger one.
It iwll be up for sale in my shop soon too.

Tire track quilting.

This is the original truck quilt I made.
It is all flannel.
It came out so dang cute!

I found the cutest Minky with construction vehicles all over it for the backing.

Finished my little Hedgehog quilt.
Minky, flannel embroidered hedgies.
Also going into my ETSY shop.

This one is going to be gifted for a friend's wedding

Such gorgeous quilting!

The quilting really shows up on the back, doesn't it?

That's some recent finishes.
I have to take pictures of the others.
There are more, oh yes many more!

Framed Folk

Working on a concept for a quilt for a wedding.
The quilt pattern is called Framed Folk
Instead of making a bunch of blocks I made one row.
I bordered that row and will set it about 2/3 down the top which will be solid white.

I had quite a little bit of help.

He just doesn't understand that his fur leaves a mess on all that white fabric.
I have to go over it with a lint roller before I send it to my friend in California to quilt it.

Usually I make a hand embroidered label for the back.
This time I wanted to try something different.
I found a paper pieced alphabet I liked and went from there.  I did the couple's first initials, the wedding date and an acronym their family uses a lot.
I can't show that as I don't want to give it ALL away, LOL.
I had fun paper piecing the letters using some text fabrics in specific ways.

Just a couple of examples (b mine).

I ended up with one block left over so I made a pillow cover with that.
I even did a hidden zipper on the back and quilted the front myself!

All it needs is an insert and viola, a shower gift!

I had cut too many of the blocks trying to decide which ones I wanted to use but not enough to make anything else from so I cut a few more and put them together as a baby quilt.
I really love how this pattern came together!

The top is now all put together but I have not taken a photo of it yet.
I may not until I get it quilted.
Aren't these blocks the bomb?
I will make this pattern again.
It is by Modernly Morgan and you can buy a copy here if you want to make one too.
It goes together so quickly!

WIPs With Friends

I have been busy working on a HST quilt that I have a deadline for.
I finished the quilt top on Sunday and am working to get the back pieced so
I can send it to the quilter.

I snapped a few photos as I was working on it.  Most were as I was playing with the layout though.

The colors are slightly more pale in person.

It actually reminds me a bit of sea glass.

As you can see Finn was assisting with the layout.

I have a tooth fairy pillow to make and then on to my kitty swap pillow cover.

What are you working on?

WIPs With Friends

I need to make another wedding quilt.  I decided that I would use grays, greenish grays and grayish blues.  I am making it all HST.  I wanted to use 7.5" blocks but ended up using 7.25" blocks.

I had sewn all the HST that I had when sewing with my friends, but realized I needed more.
I sewed what I had into pairs too.

I cut more and sewed all the additional HST and got them all trimmed.

Finn decided that he was going to supervise.

Upon wider inspection you can see that I actually had 2 supervisors in my sewing room.

I have no idea what his deal was but he had to be touching my blocks as they came off the machine.

Eventually he just passed out.

I could not resist this view of him through the throat space of my sewing machine!

I managed to get some of the pairs sewn into 4 patch blocks last night too.

Your turn.  What are you working on?  Link up!

WIPs With Friends

I hope you all had a good weekend.
It was amazingly HOT here in Michigan.
We almost never get 96 degrees in the SPRING!
CrAzY.
I wanted to do some yard work but that just did not happen.
I tried for a bit on Monday.
I dug out some grass from a small part of my garden, planted some tomato and pepper plants
and a couple of planters and called it a day.
 PHEW!

Instead I concentrated on sewing.
I should have concentrated on cleaning, HA!
Maybe this weekend.
I have a lot of commitments coming up so wanted to get a jump on those things.
I finished hand embroidering a quilt label for an upcoming wedding quilt.
 I can't show that though = (

I finished a block for another Halloween quilt but have one more to go.

On my google sheet that I keep with monthly goals is always "Make one Ocean Waves block".

I can happily check this off my list now.  I have 21/36 blocks made.

Cole was "helping" while I was working.
He matched the color scheme perfectly.
(or should I say purrfectly?)

I had no intention of making the progress I did on this wedding quilt
(Let's call this wedding quilt-A, WQ-A).
I got the entire center of the quilt cut out.

I made all the HSTs.  Next I got those all trimmed up to 4.5".  They are all untrimmed in this photo.

Next I got the first rows sewn on.

Lastly I sewed the white rows on.
All that's left to do it assemble it into the quilt center.

I am using the pattern called Newport Fantasy by Pleasant Valley Creations which you can find here.

This is what it looks like, but obviously not in the colors I am using.

What I need to determine is what color to use where the green is in the border.
I have 2 prints I am considering,
but I may just use the same solids I used for the center for the outer border too.
I wanted to get the center done and then decide what to do.
 Anyone have any strong opinions?

The two prints are mostly gray and white.
The colors in their house are grays and whites.
I am using some gray blues in the quilt but thought about
just using the different gray solids in the border.
Maybe just one of the grays?
Or maybe mix the grays and blues?
Or stick with one of the prints I got for the border?
Time will tell.

I still have an intricate FPP pattern that needs to be tested and done by the 16th.
I best get myself working on that next.
Then I can work on WQ-A.

Amy and Matt's Wedding Quilt Update

I have been making steady progress on the blocks for the next wedding quilt.
This is the first block that I finished.
I have to say I am loving the Pearl Bracelets as the background!

Of course, Autumn was right there, laying on all the fabric to help me!

See my super cool Sparty Tervis tumbler?
I went to the SA last week with hubby and he found three of them there for .99 each!
That is a scream of a deal!!!
 They are wonderful.
I can load it up with ice and there is absolutely zero condensation on the outside of the glass.
Perfect for in my sewing room.

This is the second block I finished.
I loved the bunny fabric in the lower left and the text print.

I am always a little nervous when Autumn decides to do something like this but at least most of the rows were sewn together already!

So here is the back story on this block.
Amy's mom, who was also a dear friend of mine, passed away this past October.
I thought it might be nice to include a piece of her clothing in this quilt
so that every time Amy used it she would think of her mom too.
She dropped off a blue tee shirt of her mom's on Monday.
I stabilized it with some interfacing and used it to make this block.

I had chosen some fabrics that kind of represent my own family for this quilt too
and included them in "Barb's" block.
Mine has chemical symbols, as I am a scientist.
My older daughter raises peafowl so her star had peacocks in it.
My younger daughter, Amy's best friend, has a cat, Mitch, that she never stops talking about,
so her block has Sebastian in it.
Amy loves Mitch (not really, but Mitch LOVES Amy!!)
I'm pretty sure this will be my favorite block in the entire quilt!

I asked for some fabric from Amy's MIL to be also and will make a star for her in another block.
I have some of the new Moda Modern Background math fabric that made me think of
Amy (a teacher) so will put that into the block with the fabric from her MIL.
It has been a fun way to make this personal without it being "in your face".
Amy will know and so will her husband but anyone looking will just see all the beautiful stars.
This is so Amy.

I really feel honored to be able to create this wedding gift and memory of my friend for her daughter.  I am hoping to get it all together before Christmas, but we will see.  I need to make a couple of Christmas stockings and some bridal shower gifts too (shhhh don't tell Amy ).
I had BIG plans to do more but this pesky job seems to keep getting in the way of my sewing!!!

Linking up to WIP Wednesday over at Freshly Pieced and Let's Bee Social at Sew Fresh Quilts.

What are you sewing for Christmas??
