Out of The Mouths Of Babes

I went to my small quilt group meeting last night.
I brought a quilt that I needed to bind with me to work on.
One of my DD2's friends has joined our group.
This young woman (she's only 25) is quite remarkable and
I am enjoying nurturing her on her quilting journey.
She has a blog over here, so stop in and check out her life, you will be glad you did.
It's kind of like having my DD2 here when I get together with Stacey!
Anyway, I digress.

As I was leaving last night she and I walked out to our cars and we were talking about
the Sliced Apples QAL that Cori and I are doing.
Now she is not particularly fond of the fabric I chose to use but she bought it anyway and is going to play along with us (are you?)
I told her she did not need to feel obligated to use the same fabric but she said,
"No, when a friend does something you participate.
That's how you show your support for your friend."

Isn't that the sweetest thing?
She isn't even going to keep the finished quilt she will donate it.
Just because we are friends she is going to do it with us
to support our effort to run our very first QAL.
How does someone so young "get it" already?
 Amazing.
Thanks Stacey, we appreciate your vote of confidence in our effort!!
Honestly, with all the stuff going on with my dad, and some other stuff happening at work and just regular life, it really made my day!!
Someone needs to tell her mama she did a fantastic job with that one.

Now on to my newest fabric acquisitions.
I did find this for the back of my dad's quilt and I could not be happier.
I got 4 yards (all they had).
Not quite enough for the entire back but a great beginning.
I will need just a little bit more of something to go on the top and bottom to finish it off.

My dad was in the Air Force so I though this would be neat!
I will need to hunt for some fabric with his other hobbies or maybe just plain.
What do you think?
Is one novelty on the back enough?
Would more than 1 be too much?
He plays the sax, he boats, he has cats and he used to drag race.

Then I found a great deal on some home dec fabric from the Swell line by Moda, I could not resist.

Wouldn't this make a great apron?
I think it will be adorable!
My friend Pauline, did a great apron tutorial over on her blog in case you missed it.

I think that's all for now.

Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!!

Aw, what a sweet young lady! GREAT fabric for your dad - maybe you could add other fabrics, but border them with solids? Love the Swell line!

i love the name of your quilt-along ... but i am on a The-Economy-Sucks fabric withdrawal ... the only charm packs that i have three of are Awesome - will that still qualify as being a Participating Supportive Friend?

aw, come on ... you KNOW you still love me ... right?

So glad you mentioned Stacey on your blog & how fun to have her in your group. Is Little Apples 'doable' with different fabric?? I'd love to join you all...

I know you don't have much of the fabric but could you use some of it to fussy cut and sew into the borders.
If you use a big piece in the centre and trim a bit off so you have the planes and girls intact then use a colour from the front of the quilt to make very wide borders the whole way round, you could then carefully cut around a couple of the girls and the planes and stitch them into the border for a great effect.
Hope you can find a solution that works for you, so glad you found the fabric.

Love the backing you found...I think solid navy would be great to add in...so many options though really. I am thinking I will join in but maybe use stash, oh h*ll who am I kidding...gonna shop for fabric :D
