A Tribute and Farewell to Beep

Yesterday, Beep made a trip to the vet.
She was having some trouble breathing.
The vet felt she needed to have oxygen and be monitored through the night
so sent my daughter and Beep to the ER vet in a neighboring city.
Beep had Pneumonia, most certainly a complication from the surgery.
The vets put her in oxygen and gave her a mild sedative and some antibiotics,
but her little birdie body just could not hang in there any longer.
They called my daughter to come as quickly as she could since Beep's heart had stopped once.
She made it there so that Beep passed in her arms.

It is hard to believe she is gone.
Hard to imagine going to the house and not seeing Beep there anymore.
My daughter drove to my home early this morning.
She came to my room, told me that we lost Beep and climbed into my bed, crying.
I held her as we both cried.
She decided to go home and try to get some sleep as she was exhausted.
I will go check on her later today and we will talk about how much we loved that silly bird.
Fo now a photo tribute to our little Beep.

This is one of my favorite shots of Beep.  With Shelby and Eric on their wedding day.

Beep Update

Many of you have sent such nice wishes for a speedy recovery for Beep!
Thank you.
Your thoughts and prayers have been most appreciated!
I thought I would share a few things with you about Beep.

Her surgery went well.
She has quite a big incision though and needs to be monitored as there is no cone to use for birds.  The x-ray showed a button and a "needle" in her stomach.
If you look closely you can see a straight line that was the "needle" above
and to the left of the button.

This is what they actually took out of her.  It was not, in face, a needle.
We are not sure exactly what it is.
The bad part is that it had poked some things it should not have.
The vet had to clean out some dead tissue and also pull the adhesions apart,
so that equals one sore birdie!

This is her incision line.  As you can see it is pretty large!

I got to be nurse grandma on Saturday morning as my daughter had to go away for a few hours.
Beep was pretty good with me until she work up enough to figure out that I was not her mom!
LOL
I took a few videos of her snuggles with me in the morning on Saturday.

My daughter is currently trying to get her interested in eating and drinking.
I had to go back to the farm on Sat night to bring enticements.
I think she ended up tube feeding her.
I think my husband will be picking up some pain meds today.
Hopefully with pain med on board she will feel more like eating.

I will keep you all posted!

Prayers For Beep

That's right.
I'm asking all of you to say a quick prayer that our pet peacock, Beep,
comes out of her surgery well today.
She ate some things she should not have (one being a needle) and they will open her up and remove said things today, very soon.
My daughter (Beep's mom) is a nervous wreck, as am I.
If that itchy rash I have was not bad enough before, the stress of this is making it so much worse!

Praying Dr. G is successful and that Beep recovers and is back to her old self soon.
Thanks friends, we all really appreciate it and I will keep you posted.

Beep Update:

Beep is out of surgery and they are waking her up now- she's to the "breathing on her own and heartbeat is stable" stage. The vet got the needle out but could not find the button still. He managed to get into her abdominal cavity without cutting or injuring her air sacs, which was the major worry with cutting into a bird. The needle had gone through the stomach wall into the cavity and had poked a bunch of stuff to the point where it... it basically caused her insides to scab up, and things were healing sticking together that were not supposed to be together. But he pulled the needle, fixed the adhesions, cleared out dead tissue around them, and got her put back together again. I will let you know when I know more/when she is fully awake again.

Easter Weekend

Life is never boring!  I did manage to get the binding completely sewn on by hand on Friday night.
I only had to stay up to 1am!
I also spent a LOT of time at church and cooking and cleaning!!

Hallie was there to keep me company (oh and Jack Bauer too)

As it got later she crept closer and closer to me to let me know it was bedtime!

Saturday morning we went out to our Daughter's farm.
All the peafowl were out and about enjoying the beautiful day.
Those two boys are Orion (in the foreground) and Octavian (in the background)

Orion was all about showing off where I could get some really nice photos.
He is a purple pied peacock.

Isn't he grogeous?

You can see him showing off in this short video

Here is a more close up of Octavian.
He is an opal peacock and I could not get a photo of him with his train up.

This is Blu, the first peacock hatched out at our house.  He will be 7 years old this summer.

Then there is Beep.  She came over for Easter dinner with my daughter.

Hallie loves being on this spring quilt that I put on our bed.  An oldie but a goodie for sure!
(Both Hallie and the quilt)

I hope you all had a nice weekend.  Spring is finally arriving in Michigan!

It's A Baby Shower!

I had the pleasure of attending a baby shower for one of my daughter's best friends on Saturday.
It was a 2 hour drive to get to the shower but we had so much fun!
These are the people I am making the fish quilt for.
I made a chenille blanket using MSU fabric for the back.
I couldn't show it before, but I can now!
If you want to see how to make your own it is on my tutorial page.

I made a few burp cloths too.
I think I may put some of these in my ETSY shop.
How much do you think people would pay for them?

Isn't she adorable!?  About 6 months along.  She is not very big yet!

Hard to get a good photo with the light behind them.

Congratulations Kara and Dan!

On Sunday we went out the the farm to do some chores.
I collected over 7 dozen eggs!
They are normally the size of the one on the left but look at that gigantic one on the right!!!
I bet it has 2 yolks.

It's always nice to see my pretty boy Blu.
I tried to get a photo of him with his tail up and fanned, but every time I got close he put it down.

It's hard to believe it but we hatched him from an egg several years ago now.
 He is a beauty!

If you have been here at all you have heard me talk about Beep, the pea hen that lives in the house.  Well, she laid her first egg this weekend!
Right in my daughter's lap too!!!

If you want to watch, my daughter got it all on video.
It's funny, she is just like other mamas giving birth.
Scared and nervous and wanting her mom!

I hope you all had a good weekend too!

Sometimes It's All About Perspective

While it appears that I have not been doing anything much, I actually have.
I don't have much quilty to show for my week (hand stitching some binding down) but there has been a mission at our parish all week long that I have been attending.
I came home from work, ate a quick dinner and drove to my church.
These were some later nights but with a lot of spiritual growth for me!
I belong to a very traditional Catholic church but became a Catholic only just before I got married.  This week has taught me a LOT and
I am thankful that I was given this amazing opportunity to grow in my faith.

The mission ended last night and on the way home I said to my husband
that I had not gotten much done this week.
He reminded me how very much, very important things I had actually done this week.
Sometimes life is all about perspective isn't it?

I have a few fun photos to share with you of Beep.
My friend at work has a grandson, Drew, that has a class project.
His older brother had done the same one a few years ago.
You may remember Flat Jack.  This time it is flat Drew.
The kids in the class take a photo and make a "flat" version of themselves.
Then they ask friends and relatives to take photos of them visiting wherever they live.
We send the photos back to the class with the info on where they were taken
and maybe a story or two.
I sent Flat Drew to visit Beep.

Beep was very curious about Flat Drew.
I also sent along a link to the video of Beep playing the Xylaphone!

So as we head into the weekend remember not to neglect your spiritual health,
it is even MORE important than quilty content.

I think I needed this reminder.

Enjoy your weekend my friends!

WIPs With Friends

I decided to work on a few things I needed to tidy up.
So I cleaned up my room and began to work on cutting out more of my Ocean Waves quilt.
Then my daughter called and plans changed.
She wanted me to sew a peacock diaper for Beep.
That consumed all of my Saturday afternoon.
I had her bring the old one so I had a pattern and we made a few modifications.

I forgot to take any process shots but here it is in all it's glory.
We added velcro so will see how that works out.  Hopefully Beep will not be able to undo that.

This is how it goes on the bird.

Here is Beep modeling her new diaper.

Next up was to make some baked egg rolls.  It was my first attempt at this.

I think they could be rolled a bit tighter, which I did as I made more.
Overall they turned out well and were only 3 Smart Points each!
Recipe is from the Skinny Kitchen website and you can find it here.

I put on my new Valentine's leggings and life was good!

I made the binding for the Hallowedding quilt this weekend too.  It's all black.

I made a couple of oven mitts but I can't show them as they are a surprise for a friend
 and she reads my blog.
TRUST me when I say they are adorable!
I just need to put the bias binding on the bottoms of them.
I am going to attempt a Open Wide bag for the same friend.
The free tutorial is on Noodlehead's blog.
If I can figure out how to make them I will show you what I end up with.

OK so what are you working on?  Join up with the link or use the #WIPsWithFriends.
