Blu Joined Beep in Pea Heaven Last Night

Our beloved Blu was not doing very well yesterday when my daughter got home from work.
He had a blank stare and was lethargic.
She gave him some antibiotics, a warm blanket and some snuggles and hoped for the best
but it was not to be.
We suspect he may have hit his head rather than being ill as it was so sudden.

Blu sustained an ankle injury when he was young and had to have surgery.
He used to hop along on the one good foot but he never regained full use of that foot.
He fathered LOTS of pea babies!
Many of them this year so my daughter has some consolation
in that she can keep one or more of his kids to carry on.
He was just 7 years old.
When said daughter was living at our house she actually hatched out a few peafowl.
Blu and Osiris hatched nearly the same time.
Osiris preceeded him into pea Heaven.
They hatched in her bedroom in a little styrofoam incubator, along with Jocelyn, the turkey.
She still has that turkey and she is actually the bird that hatched the last batch of eggs from Blu's pen!

Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
It has been a tough year losing our beloved Autumn cat, Beep and now Blu.

RIP Blu, I will always have a very soft spot in my heart for you!

One of my favorite photos of Blu.

Easter Weekend

Life is never boring!  I did manage to get the binding completely sewn on by hand on Friday night.
I only had to stay up to 1am!
I also spent a LOT of time at church and cooking and cleaning!!

Hallie was there to keep me company (oh and Jack Bauer too)

As it got later she crept closer and closer to me to let me know it was bedtime!

Saturday morning we went out to our Daughter's farm.
All the peafowl were out and about enjoying the beautiful day.
Those two boys are Orion (in the foreground) and Octavian (in the background)

Orion was all about showing off where I could get some really nice photos.
He is a purple pied peacock.

Isn't he grogeous?

You can see him showing off in this short video

Here is a more close up of Octavian.
He is an opal peacock and I could not get a photo of him with his train up.

This is Blu, the first peacock hatched out at our house.  He will be 7 years old this summer.

Then there is Beep.  She came over for Easter dinner with my daughter.

Hallie loves being on this spring quilt that I put on our bed.  An oldie but a goodie for sure!
(Both Hallie and the quilt)

I hope you all had a nice weekend.  Spring is finally arriving in Michigan!

WIPs With Friends

I have a very brief minute to make this post.
I will be out for the rest of the week and part of next week for my daughter's wedding.

I stopped out to her farm to visit her last weekend because her oldest peacock, Blu hurt his leg.
He had an ankle issue and had surgery when he was young.
It never really healed well and he pretty much stands on one foot all the time.
It was bound to happen that something would happen to his other foot/leg.
She has to take him to the vet today and hopefully we will know more soon.
He is the very first peacock that she hatched out from an egg.  I
t was while she was living in our home.  Both he and his sister and the turkey Jocelyn.
Osirius has passed away but Blu and Jo are still alive and kicking.
Hopefully it is just a strain and not a slipped tendon, but we should know later today.

He is such a pretty boy!
I am sure you have seen lots of photos of him thoughout the years,
but just in case these are his last few days I wanted a few more.

Daughter was happy that he has fathered so many babies and that she still has some.
She will keep one or two if something is seriously wrong with him.
She said one had Osirius's face and took me into the barn to see.
This is what I saw.
It was quite dark and I thought it was three peafowl but no, it was a peafowl sandwich with a peafowl wanna be in the middle!
As soon as I saw the three of them I knew immediately it was the bird on the far right.
His face looks just like Osirius's did.

So now on to my WIP.  Still the Hallowedding quilt.  Now it will have a haunted house!
I am loving how this came out!

An Unexpected Day

Ever had one of those days where you have plans and absolutely NOTHING goes according to them?
That was my yesterday.  Work ran late.
Farm Daughter (FD) wanted me to hem some curtains for her so she picked me up from work.
I take the public transportation and the early bus was too soon for me to get everything finished
(it's the one I usually ride) and the late bus was too late.
So she picked me up and we went out for dinner.  Then we drove to the farm to do "farm chores".  She took the curtains down while I minded the chickens.

Blu was in full show off mode.  Hard to believe we hatched him from an egg!

FD has another beautiful male named Octavian the Second (or O2 for short)   He is an Opal peacock.
I love the tinge of blue in his eye feathers.

He had to be moved to the barn as he and Blu were fighting (2 grown up boys).

After farm chores, we left to go to my house.  We brought along 12 dozen farm eggs!!!
Once we got to my house, we delivered a few dozen eggs to the neighbors
and one of our neighbors flagged me down.
He wanted me to try his latest home brewed beer.
Sigh, those curtains were not going to get hemmed.
Finally I managed to get up to my sewing room and get to work.
Funny story, did she measure the length?  NOPE, so we had to guess.
I used my bedroom window to measure and then she did the same and
separately we ended up with the exact length!

Oddly enough it fit the window perfectly!

Here's to serendipity!

Father's Day Weekend

This Father's Day was a little bittersweet.
I have the best husband and father to my kids ever, but I am missing my own dad...a lot!
We did a lot of things this weekend so we kept pretty busy though.

Hubby and I went out and helped on the farm a little bit.
The peafowl pens are coming right along.
There is still a LOT more to do though!

Here is Blu.  He sure is a beauty isn't he?
Have you seen Jurassic World?  *SPOILER*
The heroine in the story is a Raptor named Blu too!!

This is looking at the pen structure for putting up the fencing.
You can see the existing coop and their pen.

Digging down to put the fencing in around the bottom of the pen.

Lots of digging!

Soooooooo much digging!

This was Blu and O2 showing off for the ladies.  "How you doin'?"

The star of the weekend, by far was Beep.  Isn't he just the cutest little peacock?

The neighbors had a party on Saturday night so all of Saturday was a wash.
Their son has a band so we even had live music!

Then for Father's day we took my hubby to the local airport for their annual pancake breakfast.
They have a small fly in so lots of planes for him to drool over.
The two kids that are local came with us.

Son looks a little rough.  too much celebrating the night before!

Then our daughter took us to see Jurassic World, which was awesome.
One of the folks in the movie reminded me soooo much of my son (Chris Pratt).
Love it!

I have more to share but am out of time and this is a lot to look at all at once!

How was your weekend?
