T Minus 2 and Counting

I wasn't sure what to write about today. The election, some new quilt stuff, Halloween? I don't think I told you all that I am going in for my first colonoscopy on Friday. So I took today off from work to get my house cleaned, laundry done and a chance to relax a little bit. I'm a little nervous about it, but I am a year overdue for it as well. So there's that.

The election? I could not be happier with the results. Michigan has a Republican gov. and the house is back in GOP control. More importantly, many of those elected are good fiscal conservatives. Change is coming, hopefully some relief for our troubled economy as well. Time will tell. I believe the second wave will come in 2012.

I participated in Heather Ross's studio sale recently. It was quite an experience. You chose how much you wanted to spend and told her what kind of things you were looking for. I know this will surprise you but I asked for fabric! This is what I received. Some Flea Market fancy and some Mendacino.

Now those are not quite FQs but I figure it is probably around 3 yards. I do have to say it ended up being kind of pricey. I don't know what these fabrics sold for originally but it seems like they were a little expensive. I'm thrilled with the fabrics, I guess my expectations were just a little off. Did anyone else participate in the sale? What did you think? I also got this card, here are both sides.

Well, off to do laundry and some cleaning before quilting tonight. Have any of you started your first Layer Cake QAL blocks yet? I am looking forward to doing mine tonight!

I found a new blog

Now I know that some of you don't like the political side of my blog so if that's you...STOP reading right now. I found a great new (to me) blog called Chicks on the Right. They have a wonderful style of writing, kind of a humorous yet sarcastic style. It really suits my personality, LOL. If you are up for some informative and witty information stop by and give them a read.

After the president of Mexico spoke to our congress and called us out on our immigration policies and after some of our own congressmen and women applauded his doing so, Tom McClintock (R) of California had this to say:

Plymouth Tea Party

I wanted to tell about the Tea Party I attended on April 15th. I ended up getting out of work late so only caught the last half hour. It was wonderful! There was a fabulous speaker in the time I was there. He was a black preacher, Mr. Uhl, I believe, and man was he fired up! It was awesome. Here is a crowd shot. And in the second pic you can see Mr Uhl, just through the signs.



I picked up some forms to become Precinct representatives for myself and my DH. I always say that if you want something to change you need to get involved so this is my BIG first step! Wish us luck!

Congratulations to the newest senator of MA. I wonder if Washington is finally listening? First Virginia, then New Jersey and now a seat that hasn't seen a conservative republican in over 6 decades! I feel like there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you all the good people of MA that voted to end the madness that has overtaken Washington. You sent a loud and clear message to them. Listen to the American people! Use your voices and tell congress we will not roll over and play dead.

Please, God, show us the way to take back our great nation! This is a good beginning.

I'm back from NYC

We got home around 10pm on Monday night. Tuesday morning I left for Grand Rapids to go to Sarah Palin's book signing. So it went like this, I just stayed up and went to the bookstore around 11:45pm to get in line to get a wrist band. It was soooo cold. My 83 year old dad gave me his snowmobile clothes and boots to wait in the cold all night. This turned out to be genius, and I was never cold at all!! In fact when the personal summers began I had to take off my scarf! We got to go into the mall around 5:30am and the bookstore opened around 7am. They let 25 people in and I was in the second set of 25 to get in. I got my wrist band and was leaving the store when a woman stopped me and asked to see my band and what it said. Turns out she is a reported for the Detroit Free Press so she interviewed me. The article is here if you want to read about it. I am exhausted! Unfortunately, the second line is first come first served too which is kind of stupid and gives no real advantage to the people that stayed out in the cold all night. But whatever, I waited all night what's a few more hours to meet one of my idols! I am so excited!!

I have photos of it all but will upload them, in reality, tomorrow. Along with all the rest of the trip pics and the pics of the quilt stuff I bought. I'm going to shower, and put on some nice clothes and some makeup so I don't look like a total skank. Then I will take DD1 out to lunch and back in line for me. There are not photos allowed but someone from this deal will be photographing and posting to a Flickr account.

More later, sleep and shower are in order now!

My friend Carol just sent this to me, it is a great analogy
An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single
student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had
insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one
would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said OK, we will have
an experiment in this class on socialism.

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no
one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test the
grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard
were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the
second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even
less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so
they studied little... The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted
in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All
failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism
would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to
succeed is great; but when government takes all the reward away; no one will
try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

TEA'd Off

Yes...I am "one of those people" that attended a Tea Party last week. It was an amazing demonstration of a peaceful protest of some of the things our free capitalist society is becoming, and we are NOT happy about it. This sign is a pretty fair assessment of how I feel.


I believe this was a quote from Margaret Thatcher. Pretty insightful even though England is not in the best of shape either. HINT: Socialism doesn't work!

This was just the beginning of the crowd that formed in the park. Our state congress man Thaddues McCotter was there and there were people singing and speakers.

The signs were the BEST part! People were so creative!

This man was very nice but his sign sums up his feelings = ) You go Joe!!

This little girl was having a great time and she was so cute. Too bad Obama and the congress are busy spending her money (and her children's money too!)

This was awesome. She is right.

All in all it was a very interesting day and I'm proud to be an American where I have the right to protest what I don't like about what my government is doing. We have no reason to apologize for being who we are, the most successful nation in the world! Who is the country that has your back? It always seems to be us! Thanks for your support England, Australia and Canada! We need to stay capitalist and free, thank you very much!!!

What a wonderful thing!

I just read about this on the Mrs. Goodneedle's blog. It is a letter that the Bush twins wrote to president Obama's daughters. Take a minute and go and listen to it. Take your tissues!! He did a good job with those girls for them to have written something so touching.

What do you want? (warning political rant)

People ask this question all the time.  What do you want to eat?  What do you want to do today? and so on.  I'm asking what kind of country do you want to live in?  Capitalist or Socialist?  So you can see where this is going and if you are not interested in politics I suggest you come back another time!  

I, like Dot at Rantala Rags, am sick to death of the main stream media not giving fair coverage to the McCain-Palin ticket.  Please take a minute and visit Dot as she has a very interesting article worth reading on this subject.  She is right and so is the article.  As Sean Hannity says, this is the year that journalism will be declared dead.  If half of the things the Obama ticket is doing were being done by the McCain ticket they would be crucified by the main stream media.  The whole thing makes me sick!

If I wanted to live in a socialist country I would live somewhere else.  Socialism does not work.  Just look at the socialist countries.  Oh sure, it may work for the first generation when you and I will keep working because that's what we know but eventually the generations wise up and realize that they get the same whether they work or they don't and then the system fails.

Do you really want the government to run your life?  Are they better equipped to tell you how your money should be spent?  I read something recently that went like this:

A man goes out to eat and notices that his waiter is wearing an Obama button.  The man orders, and eats and has excellent service.  When it comes time to pay the bill he tells his waiter that while he has received outstanding service, because he wants to spread the wealth he will be giving the tip he would normally have given to the waiter to the homeless man outside.  The waiter is furious and the homeless man is happy.  Is this really how we want our country preserved for our kids and grandkids?  I say no, in fact I say HELL NO!!  

I want my kids to have the same America I had growing up.  The pie we take from is not finite.  Capitalism works.  We have the greatest nation in the world.  Why do you think everyone wants to come here and be like us?  Why are other countries holding us up as what they aspire to be?  Our people are great, our country is truly the land of opportunity.  

It is time to make a statement about what you want, for yourselves and your children and your children's children.  Don't take this lying down!  Go out and vote, make a difference.  (But please remember to vote only once = )  I don't want to hear anyone out there complain about the outcome if they don't vote.  Nor do I want to hear anyone that votes for Obama to complain about getting *exactly* what they vote for.  Joe the plumber is right!  Obama is not right for this country.
