The BEST Mother's Day EVER!!

I remember how much I loved Mother's day when my kids were small. Then they got older and it was not such a big deal, which was OK. When they were little my DH made sure they made me breakfast in bed and then there were the homemade things, awesome, right? Then they got bigger and it was not really quite as important, ok. I was really OK with that until my DH told me he wasn't going to do anything since "You are not my mother". OUCH!! That hurt my feelings. Then my own mom passed away and that made Mother's day even sadder. So each year I try not to expect too much, just having them all home makes me happy. BUT...this Mother's day was soooo different. My DD1 decided to hatch a plan, a plot if you will, to make this a day to remember.

Now you should remember that she is also the same one that drove my dad and sister to graduation and back home, then back to our home landing her here around 2am Sunday morning. Well, she was up at the crack of dawn and roused DH to get up also. I knew that I should stay put so I lounged in bed with Jack (our cat). Eventually they came upstairs bearing this!
Mother's Day 076
Now see who was sooo interested in assisting me,
Mother's Day 081
You are so lucky I like you enough to share such a BAD picture of me but look at how intently Jack is watching my food! It was homemade chocolate chip pancakes. You can't see it very well but in the bowl of fruit, the strawberry on top is heart shaped! Also on the tray was this note, basically stating that anything I ate or drank would contain NO points for the whole day!! (and YES my middle name is Mei)
Mother's Day 078
Well, I was so touched by all this planning. I was told I had to get up and shower next. So I did that and then I got to sew for a little while and I had to laugh when I looked over and saw this
Mother's Day 085
What's funny about this is that Aiden (the orange one) hates the calico (Hallie) so it was hysterical to see her using Hal's backside for a pillow.

Next it was a ride in the car BLINDFOLDED! That's right, I said it. I was sure passersby would think I was being kidnapped. No one cared. We drove awhile and then parked and I had to get out blindfolded. We walked into a building and then all was revealed. The Relax Station. I was in for a back massage and a foot massage.
Mother's Day 087Mother's Day 088
Yes, HI! This is what my face looked like while I was being massaged. All ready for my foot massage now thank you very much.
Mother's Day 089Mother's Day 090
MMMMMMMMMMMM foot massage, by Eric...
Mother's Day 091
Next up I was back in the car with a blindfold on again. We didn't go far and I was out of the car and into another building. Are you ready for this?? For a FULL body massage!!
This is me waiting
Mother's Day 093
And here is what I looked like on the table. I posted this to my Flickr account and it got soooo many hits and some strange woman tagged it as a "favorite". Should I be creeped out by that? As I was undressing DD1 pulled out the camera and I kept saying "Don't take any pictures, no one wants to see that" and she slowly brought the camera up and SNAP, she took one of me in my skivies (I am not going to show you , or anyone else that so you can breathe again!!)
Mother's Day 097
This is me with Julia, the massage therapist, after the massage. DD1 says it looks like I was hit by a massage truck! Well my contact was all dryed out and I had LOTS of oil in my hair.
We got back into the car and went home. I don't remember much I was a pile of jelly. Made it home and when I opened the door what to my wondering eyes should appear?? but a clean house and a bouquet of Lillies!
Mother's Day 101
YEP while we were gone the boys cleaned the downstairs and there was a beautiful bunch of lillies for me (well they are beautiful now that they are open) and this sweet and amazing card.
Mother's Day 102
I cried. You would have too.
I thought I was done but wait...there's more. I was told we were going out for dinner. We went to Red Robin. If you have never gone there you should. Their mushroom burger is to die for. (But oooo the points, except for today) Then I find out the DD2, the recent graduate, is driving down just to have dinner with us. Oh yes, BTW she had given me some of the most amazing make up for Mother's Day too. Bare Minerals, which I love. I don't wear much makeup but this doesn't feel like makeup and it makes your face look fantastic!! But I digress. So dinner was amazing. We had the same waitress we had had the last few times we were there too which was funny. This pic is all of us with Margie, our waitress.
Mother's Day 109
Then DD1 and I were trying to take a pic of ourselves with a camera and this is the best we could come up with, which makes us both look like we are all pointy chin and stuff.
Mother's Day 105
What can I say, we stink at that but we had fun.

It is difficult for me to express how much this day meant to me. I love my family but sometimes feel like they don't really understand how much I really do and have done for them. Apparently they do. Thank you so much, especially DD1, for this wonderful day. I will cherish it for the rest of my life. You done good. I love you all very much!

Kelsey's Graduation from MSU

My baby girl graduated from Michigan State University on Saturday. It was a joyous day for all of us. We drove to East Lansing and spent a little time with her before the actual ceremony. First with me, then with dad.
Kelsey's MSU Graduation 002Kelsey's MSU Graduation 003
We went to Clara's for an early dinner. Here we all are inside the restaurant. My dad and sister came with us. My DD1 drove to pick them up and bring them and I was so glad she did. She told me he slept all the way back to his house when we were finished.
Kelsey's MSU Graduation 005
Here she is with her boy friend. They make a cute couple!
Kelsey's MSU Graduation 007
We met up with his family and all ate together at a place called Clara's. It is inside an old train station, very cool. Interesting story about how we ended up there. She wanted to know where we went when I graduated from MSU and I told her "Clara's, but it's probably not there any more". It is still there and she wanted to go there also! Here is our group at dinner.
Kelsey's MSU Graduation 009
I had the salmon and it was amazing! My DS asked me if it was necessary to take a picture of my food and I assured him you all would want to see it.

Then we were off to the actual graduation ceremony. It began around 7:30pm and ended 2 and a half hours later. There she is!
Kelsey's MSU Graduation 036
Can you see the letters on the caps? She graduated with a major in Fisheries and Wildlife. So they spelled out "FISH AND WILDLIFE". She is the "F" in FISH!

Graduation Morning

Of course it is rainy (to say the least) and gale force winds here today, so please remember that when I show photos from today later as you *know* everyone's hair will look bad in that. Oh, and it is about 40 degrees F too! Awesome!

I decided to label DD2's quilt so I thought I would show you the label:
Graduation label 2010
Did you notice the copyright symbol? = ) It seems some of you learned right along with me too. Now the next question is how do some of you manage to get a signature at the end of your posts on Blogger??

I'm going to sew a little bit, then go to the gym and then home to get ready, drive the hour and a half to Lansing and have an amazing time. <3 Enjoy your day!

Oh, and for anyone out there that is a mom, in case I don't get to post tomorrow, Happy Mother's Day to you all.

I thought I should let you know what she thought about receiving the quilt. As we were leaving after graduation she asked me if she could keep it there (she is moving to Ann Arbor this week for her new job and was sending some of her things home with us). She went on to explain that she wanted to sleep under it for one night. On the way home she texted me saying that she was reading some of the things people wrote and it made her happy and sad. She couldn't believe that college was over already. She also told me later that after reading all the inspirational things people wrote it made her wish she had been better and done more. She graduated with honors, got a job and even did it in just 4 years. I think she did exceptionally well! She is very hard on herself. I could not be any prouder of her and all she has managed to pack into her life so far. I am soooo looking forward to what the future brings to her. I just thought you would like to know.

Picnik and Photo Editing

I will have to admit that I am not the most computer savy individual. That being said, neither am I a complete idiot on the computer. I usually upload my photos to Flickr. I have seen where individuals put their name and the © symbol on the photo. So I asked someone about how to do that. As you can see I can do this in blogger (and all my other applications so far) but I can't seem to be able to figure out how to do it in the photo editing app of Picnik. I use a Mac. I have a little PC lap top at home but here at work I use my Mac (Which I am totally in love with BTW).

So here is what is happening at Picnik. I grab my photo, go to "create" and into the text box. I can type in "Mama Spark 2010" then I use ALT/g and the © appears in the text box. When I apply this to the actual photo the © becomes a ? ACK!!

Now because you are all so smart or maybe you just know really smart people I am thinking you might be able to help me with this problem. Once I get something to work from my Mac I will put the info here so EVERYONE else will know how to do it too.

How are you all doing today? It is dreary and rainy here. I spoke to my sister yesterday and she scared me a little about how my dad is doing. She says, through tears, "he doesn't feel well". Well, he doesn't feel well "how?" Like he has a cold or he is dying? BIG difference, right? I called him this am and his hips are hurting. He has had both of them replaced sometime ago, so I am sure they need to be replaced again. Do they do that at 83? So far it is not keeping him off the golf course, LOL. I am sending DD1 to pick him and my sister up for the graduation tomorrow. She will go the 2 hours to his house today and then drive him to Lansing for dinner and graduation and then drive them home. I think she will spend the night and come home on Sunday.

DD1 is plotting with the rest of the fam some BIG adventure for me on Sunday. She has been sitting next to me cackling about it and plotting it all week. Fun to watch her enjoying the torture of me! She is a good kid and willing to help me out with my dad and sister so my mind will be eased about them getting there without incident. Love ya, kiddo!

Now get working on my Mac/Picnik problem will you all?? XOO

OK, I got this! Under stickers and Photo licensing, is the elusive © symbol! TA DA. Thank you Jenn for pointing me in the right direction!! Now I can label my photos!

It's Been a Bunny Hill Week So Far

I have been busy working on my Rabbits Prefer Embroidery and have managed to finish another block. I think I may actually have more of them finished rather than unfinished. Slow and steady, right? right? Please tell me I'm right. I took the pic yesterday without pressing but you get the idea right?

Block 8 RPE

The next project (which I have absolutely NO business beginning something new) is A Tisket A Tasket. This was a free BOM by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill. If you have been here before you know I have a real love of all things Bunny Hill. I loved the pattern but wanted to do it a little differently. I saw how Monica at the Happy Zombie did hers and I was HOOKED!! So Monica I am copying off of you. You all *NEED* to go and check out her blog. She has a new line of fabric coming out soon that will knock your sox off!! I am less of a yellow fan so am using a green polka dot for the background. Like her I am using Sweet by Moda for the blocks (I think she also used Swell, but I don't happen to have that one) Pretty sure I will live. So you see it will be my own too. I have the first 2 blocks fused now, so all I have to do is blanket stitch around them. Then the embroidery. I am so excited!! I am going to show these to you but remember they are just begun so...
Here is January
Tisket a Tasket Jan
And here is February
Tisket a Tasket Feb

I'll be interested in knowing what you think of these. I LOVE how they are turning out so far!

Now I need to make a label and sew it on the gigantic "S" quilt for DD2's college graduation on Sat.

Look What I Can Do!

No not me per say but my very talented cat, Mosen. He can say mama. No really he can. Don't believe me? Watch the video.

I have several videos on Flickr that you might want to take a minute to view. We had to pull out a stump this weekend and I videoed our awesome Jeep pulling it out. Here are a few photos of that too. Before:
Pulling out the tree stump 001
And After:
Pulling out the tree stump 003
Yes that is my DS pulling with all his mite to move it into the woods in our back yard. They had to knock a lot of dirt off before he could drag it to the back yard. We wanted to do a lot of yard work but the weather did not really cooperate. We got this stump out and a dwarf apple tree planted and I got half of one garden weeded, black raspberries planted and iris dug out. That's it. I don't know if I will get out today as it is kind of rainy but we will see. All of my gardens need a lot of work this year so spring will be busy outside and quilting will be on the back burner I'm afraid.

I also wanted to share a sweet gift that my friend Karen's mom, Sonja, brought to me from Brazil. Apparently the brand of flip flop is very popular throughout the world (I would know this because I am a fashionista, right?...NOT) The brand is Havaianas. That in itself was so thoughtful but wait there's more. She had beads hand sewn onto them in a beautiful flower pattern (Karen calls me Flor which is flower in Portugese). They are beautiful and I LOVE them!!
Havaianas from Brazil
Lest you think I have not been sewing I have, just not a lot! I did manage to get block 5 in the Jelly Roll QAL finished and this is mine, using Verna.
JRQAL Block 5
Last but not least I almost forgot to tell you we began a new Body Vive class at the gym yesterday and it kicked my butt! I am soooo sore today (I'm sure the gardening had nothing to do with that either). Anyway, when I weighed in at the gym I had lost another 1.6 pounds. Will see how the WW scale goes tomorrow but keep your fingers crossed!

Help a Sister Out

Just a quick post. My friend, Saska, at Oklacookiemaker Quilts has entered a contest and needs us to vote for her photo. The link is here, and hers is entitled "String Quilts on the Line". Please take a minute (actually 30 seconds or so) and go there and vote for her picture. It would be fantastic if all of my friends would vote and then tell all of their friends so we can make it happen for Saska.

Pretty please??

The Power of Prayer

Wow! Remind me to ask you guys to pray for me sometime will ya? I have an update on my friend. I told you they took her off the vent earlier this week and I don't think anyone expected her to live through that. Well, I received a call last night telling me that not only did she live through that but she is up walking around and very lucid! Even reminded her daughter that her electric bill needed to be paid, and what her sign in was so she could do it online!!! The power of God is amazing! Thank you so much for all your prayers.

Her doctors told her that the kind of meningitis she had is rare and that when someone did get that kind only 1% even survive it! Obviously she still has some things in this life to do yet. I hope she will take this glorious opportunity given to her and make the most of it. Because of the brain surgery they didn't think she would be able to hear at all out of the ear closest to the surgical site but her hearing is the same as it was going in. What a miraculous thing!

I am up early, big thunderstorms this morning and all the cats *needed* me. Autumn was outside so she was crying at the bedroom window to come in and she was soaking wet!

I am off to the gym soon so I will leave you for now. I have an idea about a quilt that I want to share with you all later though. Have a great day!!

Some Sad News

You all must remember that I left the church ladies quilt group a short while ago right? Last week one of the CL's was put into the hospital with meningitis. There was surgery and we all waited for news. I just found out today that tomorrow they will be taking her off life support. I know she did not want to live that way. They will let nature take its course, so her fate is in God's hands. Please pray for her and for her family as they struggle through this time. I will keep you posted.

Seems kind of silly to mention this but I have not posted my weigh in this week. I stayed exactly the same. Bummer. Hopefully this week will be better.

Old McDonald??

Yep this is what occupied my day on Saturday. My DD1 went to a "bird swap" with some friends. She just happened to ask LTW if there were any critters she might *need* for her new farm. LTW said, well if you happen to find a Pygmy goat or some of those funny looking chickens with pom poms on their heads that might be cool... Famous last words!

Of course DD1 made this her mission at the swap. Which for those of you that might not know what a "bird swap" is this is what DD told me. A bunch of people drive to a field and bring critters they want to sell/trade and the swappin' begins!

Here is my DH feeding the new Pygmy goat in my kitchen. She really is adorable. She had an ear tag that got caught on the cage and ripped it off thus splitting her ear so we had to do some first aid. Neosporin, bandages and duct tape to hold the bandages in place should do nicely.

Chris feeding goat 02
Next came the chickens (Polish chickens to be exact). The females have the "pom poms" on their heads. DD managed to get 2 mated pairs, one in blue (looks like black to me) and one in buff.
female blueFemale buff up close
Here are the roosters. This is after we delivered them to their new home on the farm. They sure are cute! They may even have some little Polish babies!! How adorable is that?

Ckns in new home
My DD *really* wanted a Peacock. Her friend managed to get a spectacular bargain on this beautiful India Blue male that is a year old already and should come into his tail feathers within the year. As I hear it from LTW, they have already made him a pen so he can get up high, which is where they like to be and apparently he is quite loud! Next thing on the list is to get a mate for him, maybe that will keep him quieter? He will also display his feathers more if there is a female around.
Peacock 02
Here is the goat (now named "Sunshine") with her new mom! Sunshine should be bottle fed for the rest of this week and then should be able to eat regular goat food. This was a match made in heaven!
Becky and goat 02
Apparently you need to be careful when cleaning out the cupboards at the farm too, you never know what (or who) will be inside!!
Cupboard cleaning
I was kind of fascinated by this awesome specimen of fungus. Too cool!
Tree fungus
Next time I go to the farm I will get some pictures of the house and the barn. I had my hands full with all the critters, DH and DD.

Sunday was spent cleaning at my house! Messy little buggers! But lots of fun. Hey ,you just never know what is going to happen at my house!!

Mosen and another "Peek"

This is my cat, Mosen. I don't know how many of you have cats but somehow they always manage to find the sunshine don't they? Isn't he handsome? I thought you might like to know that, officially, I really did lose another 2 pounds this week, bringing the grand total so far to 29.2 pounds!! If you have joined me on this weight loss adventure be sure and tell me how it is going for you too!
Mosen in the sunlight

I have been working on my quilt. I hope to have a pattern available soon. Here is another sneak peek. I love how it is turning out and can't wait to share the top with you! Stay tuned.
Another peek

In addition, you all remember that I left the church's quilt group right? Well one of the CL's was admitted to the hospital yesterday with meningitis. She is on life support. Please, if you have a quick minute, say a prayer for her and her family. I really appreciate it.

Plymouth Tea Party

I wanted to tell about the Tea Party I attended on April 15th. I ended up getting out of work late so only caught the last half hour. It was wonderful! There was a fabulous speaker in the time I was there. He was a black preacher, Mr. Uhl, I believe, and man was he fired up! It was awesome. Here is a crowd shot. And in the second pic you can see Mr Uhl, just through the signs.

I picked up some forms to become Precinct representatives for myself and my DH. I always say that if you want something to change you need to get involved so this is my BIG first step! Wish us luck!

Did any of you attend any of the Tea parties across the country?

Weekend Exploits

How come every time I write about my weekend the first word that comes to mind is BUSY?? I left work a little early and DH picked me up and we drove to East Lansing to visit with DD2. I had to bring her a dress for a wedding she and the BF were going to and her dad wanted to change out her head lamp on her car. We ended up visiting with DH's sister and BIL. That was nice as we had not seen them in a long time. Then we went out for dinner. I passed out in the car on the way home (I guess all those mornings getting up early finally caught up with me, along with that wine I had!)

Saturday saw me at the gym early and both classes taken. Lost another 2 pounds (gym scale), YEAH!! I just want to take a minute to tell you all how much your support is helping me! I feel like I can do it and many of you have emailed me to tell me you are working on it too because of me. That is a wonderful feeling. Let's keep spreading the health! It seems like too often women tear down each other rather than build each other up. I'm glad to know I am helping with the building up!! The rest of the day was grocery shopping, laundry and catching up on blogs. You guys have so much good information and great projects and giveaways going on. We are a busy community! I am still working on reading all on my bloglines but will get there.

Today DH was leaving for flight school for the week and I had to drop him off at the airport so there went my morning. BUT...I did manage to work on my next block for the Jelly Roll Quilt-A-Long block and here it is:
JR QAL Block 4
We were supposed to do the outside in "darks" but I saw one that someone else did with the light on the outside and I love how this came out!

I am going to watch the Red Wings in their play off game (we do live in Hockey Town, ya know) and do some cutting. I still have a few blocks to cut down from the water quilt to make the next one I want to make. I am also considering joining the Great Hexagon QAL, are any of you doing that one?? So cute.

I did attend the local Tea Party on Thursday and will tell you more later, I wanted to show this quilt block first. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and thanks again for stopping by and especially for all your wonderful support!!

PTM's BIG Birthday!!

So I told you that PTM told me her birthday was actually tomorrow but in reality it was April 7th. What do you got for someone that has the things she wants and buys what she wants? The gift of time of course! So here is what I decided to do. I took the day off of work to do this. First we met up at the gym around 7:30 and worked out together. I went home, showered, changed and went to pick her up. The first place we went was the Quilter's Garden quilt shop in Fenton.
Pauline's birthday 001
We spent a lot of time there and had a lot of fun. I will show you my purchases tomorrow. Next stop was The French Laundry for lunch. Here is PTM in front of it.

Here we are eating our lunch and here is our lunch...YUM!! My treat!
Pauline's birthday 002Pauline's birthday 003
Nest stop was the Institute of Art in Flint to see the Gee's Bend quilts.
Pauline's birthday 007
It was an interesting exhibit. Kind of fits right into the whole Modern movement that's going on right now. I have to laugh, as PTM is beginning to really like the more Modern quilts like me!! I think I liked the paintings almost as much as the quilts. What an interesting exhibit!
The next place we were going was Linda's Country Quilts in Davidson.
Pauline's birthday 010
Now for those who wanted to see more of the less of me here ya go. Me and PTM inside of Linda's

It was a wonderful day and I had a lot of fun and I hope PTM enjoyed her birthday celebration today too. I will show you my purchases tomorrow, bed now, 5:10 comes WAY too early!!
